Hit Man for the Mafia (11/6 Impact Recap)

A recap of the young stars banding together and Scott Steiner joining the Main Event Mafia kicks off this week’s broadcast.  The new Impact into hits and we are welcomed to tonight’s show that will feature a Knockout tag team match and a four-way ladder match.  Plus, every MEM member will be in action which will be capped off with Scott Steiner against Samoa Joe in the main event.

The Main Event Mafia makes their way to the ring and Kurt Angle gets on the microphone and announces Scott Steiner as their newest member and calls him their “hit man.”  Steiner says that they have earned their respect throughout the years and wrestling all over the world.  As far as the young punks go, they seemed to be more concerned with their video games, “mark” wrestling web sites and comic books.  Steiner says that he hadn’t heard of any of them prior to joining TNA and that they wouldn’t even be recognized in their own home towns.

Samoa Joe’s music hits as he is followed by the Motorcity Machine Guns, Jay Lethal, Consequences Creed and Eric Young.  Joe says that he may have been offended if he could have understood what he just said.  He then runs down their accomplishments, such as the Ultimate X matches and their unique style of wrestling that sets them apart.  Joe then congratulates their new recruitment and says that they have been doing some of their own and introduces Christian Cage.

Impact the Vote

If you have an hour of time to pass and would rather hear about the upcoming presidential election from pro wrestlers instead of pundits, the latest edition of The Spin Cycle just may be up your alley.

For  this extended version of the show, TNA brought out four personalities - AJ Styles, Mick Foley, Booker T, and BG James - who discussed and gave their thoughts on the upcoming presidential election.  What makes this even more interesting is the fact that none of wrestlers were in character and they got to speak their own thoughts and give their own opinions.  In the end, all four of them got a chance to endorse a presidential candidate and gave their reasons why.  By the time it comes to this, though, it is pretty easy to tell who each of them is going to endorse, however, there is one surprise.

The Making of the Mafia (10/30 Impact Recap)

A recap of last week’s show open Impact that focuses on the Main Event Mafia, the Legends Championship and Mick Foley announcing that he is a major stock holder in TNA.

The new Impact intro airs as we head into the renovated “HD Impact Zone” and are welcomed to the show by Mike Tenay and Don West.  Scheduled for tonight’s show is Kevin Nash & Booker T against Samoa Joe & AJ Styles and Kurt Angle taking on Abyss.

AJ Styles music hits as Styles and Samoa Joe come down to the ring with microphones.  Styles says that he is glad that Mick Foley is a part of TNA but says that he is going to fight their wars on their own.  Styles then says that he has grown along with TNA as they made their transition from the Asylum in Nashville to the Impact Zone and HD.

Styles says that him and Joe got to crushed and bloodied in high-def, but what bothered him the most is that none of the younger guys never came out to help.  Styles tells the young stars to take advantage of the situation and asks if they have the balls to cross the line and stand out there with him and Joe.  The question is answered by Jay Lethal as he comes out to the ring and is followed by Consequences Creed, Petey Williams, ODB and Eric Young.

Scattered Thoughts

It is time to take a journey through a few noteworthy topics and items that I have come across lately but didn’t deserve the attention of a full blown column.  I will give my thoughts on the new TNA Impact stage and setup, the pay-per-view name shake up and a couple of columns that I have read that I would like to comment on.

New Impact Set to Debut on Thursday
For the most part, the Impact Zone has used the same set up for the past four years.  After all of that time, the Impact Zone has gotten a well-needed face lift and it is set to debut this Thursday night.

One aspect that has been unique for the Impact Zone has been its dual ring entrances.  After all was said and done, two entrance tunnels remained but they now come out of the same main stage, which is highlighted by a huge screen.  Removing the second entrance ramp on the opposite side made way for an extra 400 seats, which I’m sure will be no problem to fill.

Strange Locations

This past Thursday, TNA made their Impact debut in high definition on Spike TV.  To mark the special occasion they took Impact out of the Impact Zone at Soundstage 21 in Universal Studios Florida and into the confines of The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

After seeing the broadcast, I couldn’t find many good things to say about the choice of venue.  The crowd looked small, which wasn’t helped due to the fact that there was a wall about six rows deep across from the main cameras.  The room décor distracted from the action and it really made TNA’s HD debut look second rate.

Out of all of the places that are available in Las Vegas, I’m sure they could have had selected a venue better suited for a wrestling event.  This got me thinking, however, about some other odd choices in the past of locations chosen for wrestling events.  Without further ado, here is my list of the Top 5 Strangest Locations for Wrestling Events.
