Dixie Carter sent out a message on Twitter today about signing a talent that people have been asking about. While she didn’t reveal who that person was, it does make the mind start to wonder as to who that person could possibly be.
The first name that immediately came to mind was Shelton Benjamin. He is one of the few free agents out there that I would love to see in TNA as I think he was horribly misused in his time with WWE and could use a fresh start. I know he has been spending time on the independent circuit as of late and is set to tag up with his former tag team partner, Charlie Haas, in an upcoming ROH event, so it might be a long shot if he is the one Dixie Carter is talking about. I’d still welcome him into TNA with open arms and would love to see him there someday.
Mickie James is the second name that popped in my head when I starting thinking of potential wrestlers that would sign with TNA. James had a lackluster end to her time in WWE and became the butt of several fat jokes at the expense of LayCool, although her talent outshines both of them in the ring. Shortly after being released, Dixie Carter posted a note to Twitter saying she went and saw James perform her country music act in Nashville, TN. James would be a great addition to the Knockouts division and has some history with TNA as she performed as Alexis Laree back in 2003.
Since I have former TNA wrestlers on my mind, could Christopher Daniels or Petey Williams be the person she is talking about? In my mind, neither Daniels nor Williams should have ever been let go in the first place. Daniels was released this past March, shortly after putting on a series of great main event matches with the likes of AJ Styles and Samoa Joe. Williams, on the other hand, lost an “Off the Bandwagon” challenge match against Beer Money and was forced to leave TNA. Both would be a sight for sore eyes once again in TNA.
Finally, a few hours after Carter’s tweet, D’Angelo Dinero posted a message to Twitter that mentioned the new signing and ended it with Carlito-esque statement “Now that… that’s cool!” Could Carlito Colon be on his way to TNA? Dinero followed up an hour later and said he didn’t mean anything with his previous statement and said that he didn’t know who it is and it was purely coincidental. The cat may be out of the bag, though, or should I say the apple may be out of the bag?
I don’t know if the signing of Carlito would warrant the extra attention that this Twitter message is probably giving it, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Carlito in TNA. I enjoyed Carlito for the most part during his run in WWE, but, like Shelton Benjamin, he was horribly misused. He doesn’t have the technical skills of anyone else I mentioned, but he does have charisma and can be entertaining on the microphone.
Of course, I could be wrong on all of my guesses and it could be someone like Scott “Flash” Norton or the Ultimate Warrior. Guess I’ll just have to wait and see like everyone else.
