Dixie Carter promised a surprise at Slammiversary and it came in the form of Tommy Dreamer. Dreamer was spotted at the event walking through the crowd during the teacher vs. student match between Brother Ray and Jesse Neal. Dreamer distracted his former ECW mate, thus allowing Neal to pick up the victory with a spear.
Dreamer recently left WWE as part of the ECW roster at the end of 2009. The parting was emotional as he lost to Zack Ryder with the stipulation that if he lost he would be forced to retire from ECW; the very company he was the heart and soul of… well, at least the original company he was the heart and soul of.
Dreamer was the last original member of ECW on the roster and the writing was pretty much on the wall at that point that this version of ECW was in its dying days. ECW finally closed up shop about a month and a half later. Dreamer was one of the final people to ever hold title ECW Championship before losing it to Christian at Night of Champions in 2009.
After his WWE contract was terminated, speculation rose that he would be on his way to TNA where some of his ex-ECW friends, such as Team 3D, RVD, Rhino and Taz, are currently working. Dreamer is said to be working without a contract but one can hope that this gives more reason for Paul Heyman to jump on board. TNA fans can only hope.
