TNA Epics Recap – X Division

TNA Epics Recap – X Division

Several TNA stars, such as Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, Daniels, and Samoa Joe give their thoughts about what the X Division is, what it means to TNA, and what makes the division special.

The Epics intro hits as Mick Foley comes out to introduce us to tonight’s show which will look back on some of the greatest X Division matches in TNA history, including the 2005 from Unbreakable, which is considered to be the best match in TNA history.  Also, an Ultimate X match will be featured, before all of that, though, the first ever Steel Asylum match from Sacrifice 2008 will be aired.

Steel Asylum Match (Sacrifice 2008)
This match featured the high octane action with bodies all over the Steel Asylum (or TerrorDome as it was called at this point in time).  Jay Lethal, Curry Man, Kaz, Alex Shelley, Jimmy Rave, Chris Sabin, Johnny Devine, Shark Boy and Consequences Creed all took participated in the match where the winner had to crawl up the cage and escape out of the small hole in the center.  In the end, Kaz was able to escape the cage and win a shot in the main event to replace the injured Kurt Angle on top of a shot at the X Division Title.

TNA talent gives their thoughts on the Ultimate X match with Kurt Angle saying that Hollywood stunt men wouldn’t even want to be in the match and that it is what separates TNA from the rest.  Samoa Joe says that it is the equivalent of being a human piñata before calling it a dangerous match.

Amazing Red vs. Suicide vs. Daniels vs. Homicide vs. Alex Shelley vs. Chris Sabin (Ultimate X for X Division Championship – Bound for Glory 2009)
Amazing Red is the defending champion in this Ultimate X match and the Motorcity Machine Guns won an opportunity to be in this match by defeating Lethal Consequences in a Bound for Glory dark match.  Bodies fly everywhere in this match with Red taking Daniels from the top rope to the floor with a hurricanrana and Suicide pulling Homicide down from the cables.

The climbing actually goes above the cables and onto the steel structures as the fans begin a “please don’t die” chant as Suicide and Daniels fight above the X Division title.  After dropping down to the cables and seeing the two duke it out, Suicide drops Daniels down to the mat and Amazing Red is able to climb down to the cable and grab the title to retain the X Division Championship.

Samoa Joe, AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels give their thoughts about being in the 3-way match for the X Division Title at Unbreakable and how they proved that the X Division could main event a pay-per-view event.

Christopher Daniels vs. Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles (Unbreakable 2005)
Daniels is the defending X Division Champion in this 3-way match, a match that is considered to be the best match ever in TNA.  It is a claim that I will not argue as it was full of energy, action, intensity, and everything that makes the X Division great.  Throughout the course of the match, the tide turned in several directions which caused you to think that any one of these three could win the match at any moment.

The match contained several near falls and submission attempts and had all of the fans in the Impact Zone, and probably most watching the match live at home, enjoying every single second of it.  In the end, Joe took himself out by accidentally going through the ring ropes and crashing into the guard railing.  AJ Styles then won the match by countering the Angel’s Wings with a bridging suplex to win the X Division Championship.

Mick Foley ends the show by stating that the incredible 3-way match is still talked about today and will be for years to come as he closes out this edition of Epics.
