Earlier today, Awesome Kong posted a message on Twitter thanking TNA and Dixie Carter for wishing her the best on her future endeavors. The news hasn’t been announced formally by TNA, but by the sounds of it, one half of the Knockouts Tag Team Champions could be out the door.
Kong has been at odds with the company as of late, the most of it coming from an altercation that happened backstage between her and Bubba the Love Sponge. The two got into a physical confrontation over Bubba’s less than kind remarks about the earthquake victims in Haiti. It was said that shortly after that, Kong asked for her release from TNA but was denied.
Since its inception in 2007, Kong has dominated the Knockouts Division and held the Knockout Championship on two occasions. She has held the title twice as long as anyone else and is currently one half of the Knockouts Tag Team Champions, a title she won on January 4th with Hamada. At times, Kong has even competed with the men in TNA and was paired up with BG James in the Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament to crown new tag team champions in 2008.
If what Kong posted is true, there will be a giant hole in the Knockouts Division in her absence. Kong, literally and figuratively, has huge shoes to fill and it will not be easy envisioning a Knockouts Division without her. The Knockouts always seem to pull in some of the highest ratings so it will be interesting to see how that all plays out.
It is unknown what Kong will have waiting for her on the horizon, but one would assume a stop in WWE would be a viable option. Sure, she doesn’t fit the “smart, sexy and powerful” mantra they preach there, but she could whip some of those divas in shape. Or maybe reignite her rivalry with Gail Kim, which would be great to see as it had an abrupt ending in TNA after Kim jumped to WWE in 2008.
