The TNA voiceover guy states that for 25 years, Sting has been one of the most recognizable legends in the wrestling business. TNA members give their thoughts on Sting and Mike Tenay calls Sting TNA’s version of Mr. October by earning gold at Bound for Glory in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Mick Foley welcomes us to TNA Epics as we take a look back at some of Sting’s greatest matches in TNA, which all took place at Bound for Glory, including the first pay-per-view encounter between Sting and Kurt Angle and his classic battle against Samoa Joe. First, though, we will see Sting’s BFG debut against Jeff Jarrett.
Interview footage of Jeff Jarrett and Sting is aired where Sting put his career on the line for Jarrett’s NWA Championship. Jarrett talks about Kurt Angle being the special enforcer and Sting says how it was his return to the ring and wanted to prove to himself that he still had it.
Match 1: Sting vs. Jeff Jarrett (NWA World Championship – Bound for Glory 2006)
Sting came out with an updated look, with a new version of his classic face paint and a new pair of tights. It was also the first TNA pay-per-view that took place outside of the Impact Zone as it emanated from the Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, MI. During the course of the match, Kurt Angle would take out Rudy Charles with an Angle Slam and take over the referee duties. Sting, of course, would defeat Jarrett by making him tap out to the Scorpion Death Lock to win the NWA World Championship.
Kurt Angle talks about never meeting Sting before in a match until the two faced off at Bound for Glory in 2007. Angle says he was surprised Sting was able to get up after hitting his 450 splash and says it was one of his favorite matches in TNA. Sting says he still suffers from that match as it was brutal.
Match 2: Sting vs. Kurt Angle (TNA World Championship – Bound for Glory 2007)
The 2007 version of Bound for Glory took place at the Gwinnett Center near Atlanta, GA. During this main event, both Angle and Sting pushed each other to the limit with their signature submission holds. Kevin Nash and Karen Angle also made their presence felt and interfered in the match, however, it was not enough to keep Sting down as he was able to capture the World Championship once again after cleaning house with his baseball bat and taking Angle out with the Scorpion Death Drop for the pin fall.
Samoa Joe talks about his Bound for Glory IV match against Sting and says it was one of his most important matches at his career. Both competitors talk about Joe’s memorable dropkick from the skybox and Sting also calls this another brutal match as Joe pulled out all of the stops.
Match 3: Sting vs. Samoa Joe (TNA World Championship – Bound for Glory IV)
This match took place at the Sears Center near Chicago, IL, and the Starman himself got to witness the match firsthand. The fight between these two went through the crowd and up near the top of the arena before finally making it back into the ring. Like the two previous years, Sting would once again come out on top and win the TNA World Championship as I would get the chance for some free advertising for www.thehexagoncircle.com with my sign from the fourth row.
Mick Foley reiterates why people consider Sting as Mr. October as he always comes through in the big matches and that is why the fans refer to him as the Icon as this edition of TNA Epics comes to a close.
