Love in a Hellavator (9/17 Impact Recap)

A recap of Homicide turning on Hernandez and joining the World Elite is aired.  Mick Foley is then seen walking in the back with his two sons as he will face Kevin Nash for the TNA Legends Championship later on tonight.

The Impact intro hits as we are welcomed to tonight’s show by the Motorcity Machine Guns and Mike Tenay doesn’t seem to like the fact that they have taken the show opening.  We then head right into the first match.

Match 1: Tara & Christy Hemme vs. the Beautiful People (Knockout Tag Team Tournament Semi-final Match)
Tara starts out the match and powers Angelina around before tagging in Christy.  Angelina is able to turn the tide of the match and lets Velvet take over who gets a two count on her opponent.  Angelina is tagged back in as both her and Christy take each other down before tagging in their partners.

Tara comes in and immediately takes Velvet down before landing a standing moonsault but Velvet is able to kick out.  Christy is tagged back in and she hits the FFG but Angelina breaks up the pin fall.  The match begins to break down as Madison Rayne comes down with a paper bag and sprays Christy eyes with perfume as Velvet rolls her up for the pin fall.

After the match, Madison applauds in approval as she shows the Beautiful People the other side of the paper bag that says “I’m Sorry.”  The Beautiful People embrace Madison as it appears she is back to being part of the fold.

Lauren is backstage with D’Angelo Dinero who says he is going to reach out to Suicide and enlighten and resurrect him, only to pimp slap him straight back to hell.  He says he will pay the price tonight and promises to lay his hands on Lauren later on tonight.

Match 2: D’Angelo Dinero vs. Suicide
Suicide runs into the ring and immediately takes Dinero down as they roll out to the floor and fight around the ringside area.  The fight goes back into the ring as Dinero takes control and slams Suicide down and gives him a pimp slap before hitting Suicide with a huge uppercut.

Suicide is able to sway the match into his favor by fighting back with a couple of dropkicks and goes heads to the top rope but Dinero holds up the knees to counter.  The Pope then hits the DDE on Suicide to win the match via pin fall.

Mike Tenay and Taz run down the rest of tonight’s card that will feature another semi-final Knockout Tag Team Tournament match between Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed up against Taylor Wilde & Sarita.  Plus, Brother Ray & Robert Roode will take on Scott Steiner & Brutus Magnus in a tag team match to see who gets the man advantage during their upcoming Lethal Lockdown match at No Surrender.  Also, Matt Morgan will take on Samoa Joe and Mick Foley will take on Kevin Nash for the TNA Legends Championship.

Lauren is backstage with the World Elite as Kiyoshi takes over the interviewer role as Eric Young says Homicide was the architect of the LAX and greed, jealousy and envy took over when Hernandez decided to go his own way.  Young goes on to say that he will do whatever it takes to open his eyes, including cracking his skull.  Hernandez steps in and says that Hernandez is not part of his family and promises to destroy him.

A video package featuring Rhino is aired and says that his sights have been set on Bobby Lashley.  We then cut to the Impact Zone where Rhino is in the ring with a microphone and talks about people cutting ahead of him by playing politics in the back and instead of moving ahead, he was given the task of training Jesse Neal.  He said that Neal humiliated him in the ring, so he had to go ahead and kick his ass.  As for Bobby Lashley, he said that he saw Dixie Carter all dolled up sitting with Lashley and he wonders when the last time she ever talked to him was.

Team 3D’s music hits as Brother Devon comes down to the ring.  Devon says that Rhino sounds like he is crying like a little bitch and wants to try to talk some sense into him.  He says that Neal had nothing to do with politics and reminded Rhino of his early days in ECW.  Devon suggests that they head to the back and talk about the old days and have a good time.  Devon holds out his hand but Rhino instead attacks him and sets up for the Gore until Brother Ray slides in and attacks him.  Security guards come out and separate the two as we head into a commercial break.

Match 3: Sheik Abdul Bashir & Kiyoshi vs. Hernandez (Handicap Match)
Hernandez comes in and quickly takes both of his opponents down and squashes them in the corner.  Hernandez tosses Bashir out to the floor and slams Kiyoshi down before Bashir hits a dropkick from the middle rope.  Bashir follows with a neckbreaker and Kiyoshi goes for a moonsault but misses as Hernandez fights his way back into the match.  Hernandez then hits Kiyoshi with the Border Toss to win the match.

Homicide comes down the ring after the match and Hernandez grabs him as he is hit by a chair from behind by Eric Young.  Homicide and Young then put the Feast or Fired briefcase over Hernandez’s neck and smash it with a chair as he starts to cough up foam.

Lauren is backstage with ODB ands asks about the chance of a man winning the Knockouts Championship and tarnishing their division.  ODB says that she and the rest of the Knockouts have busted their asses to make their division what it is today.  She promises that Cody Deaner will not win the championship and make a mockery of their division.

Match 4: Alissa Flash vs. Cody Deaner (Lumberjack Match)
Alissa Flash tosses Cody Deaner out to the floor as the Lumberjacks, all consisting of Knockouts, immediately lay their boots to him.  Roxxi and Sojo give Deaner a suplex onto the ramp and he is sent into the ring post before being rolled back into the match.  Flash then covers and picks up the pin fall.  After the match, Awesome Kong and Tara and the Madison Rayne and Christy Hemme start going at it as ODB comes out and nails Deaner with her flask.

Lauren is talking with Kevin Nash who asks if it is a good idea to hold an open casting call for his Big Sexy World Tour on the same night that he is defending the Legends Championship against Mick Foley.  A large lady comes out and lets her to sit on his lap as he isn’t concerned with the match at all.

Jeremy Borash is with Mick Foley who is focused on Nash tonight and says that he will start taking back TNA one step at a time and nobody can stop him.  That match between the two is up next.

Match 5: Kevin Nash vs. Mick Foley (TNA Legends Championship)
The bell rings and these two brawl back and forth in the opening moments.  Foley pulls out Mr. Socko but Nash counters by sending Foley through the ropes and onto the floor.  Nash sends Foley into the steel steps and into the guard railing before sending him back into the ring.

Nash focuses on Foley’s forehead that has been cut open as Abyss’s music hits as he comes to the ring with a barbed wire bat as the referee disqualifies Foley and awards the match to Nash.  Abyss tries to apologize to Foley but he doesn’t want to hear it and takes his barbed wire bat and walks away.

Lauren is backstage with Beer Money and Team 3D and Brother Ray says for the past year, both of their teams have kicked the crap out of each other but it has always been about respect.  Tonight they have to work together to gain the man advantage at Lethal Lockdown and says that they have their backs.  Roode just says he just has one thing to say and that is “testify.”

After a commercial break, Abyss is backstage with Lauren and says that he was just there to help and wants to talk things over with Mick Foley.  Abyss starts pulling out his hair as Lauren tries to get him to stop.

Match 6: Scott Steiner & Brutus Magnus vs. Robert Roode & Brother Ray
Steiner and Roode go back and forth in the opening moments of the match before their partners are tagged in.  Brother Ray chops Magnus a few times before slamming him down to the canvas to get a near fall.  Magnus comes back with a suplex and tags his partner into the match as Steiner begins to wear down Ray.

Steiner and Magnus begin to work Ray over with quick tags and Steiner picks up a near fall after a t-bone suplex.  Ray, however, comes back with a Bubba Bomb and tags Roode into the match as Magnus is also tagged in.  Roode comes in and hits a high backdrop on Magnus and hits a spinebuster but Steiner makes the save.

The match then breaks down as Roode hits the Payoff on Magnus but a referee distraction allows Doug Williams to nail Roode with an IWGP belt and gives Magnus a chance to cover for the pin fall.

A video package highlighting an event held by TNA and Kyle Vanden Bosch that helped support the Boys and Girls Clubs on middle Tennessee is aired.  Vanden Bosch and Dixie Carter talk about the event and the cause and how to get tickets to the upcoming event.

A short video where Bobby Lashley is seen giving a comment about his upcoming match with Rhino by saying he is going to knock his ass out.

Match 7: Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed vs. Taylor Wilde & Sarita (Knockout Tag Team Tournament Semi-final Match)
Awesome Kong starts out strong against Taylor as she slams Saeed onto Taylor to get a quick near fall but she is able to kick out.  Taylor tags Sarita into the match and Saeed traps her in their corner and tags in Kong, who comes in and hits Sarita with a hard chop.  Kong begins to wear down Sarita with a head lock and tags Saeed back into the match.

Saeed works Sarita over for a bit until she is able to roll into her corner and tag Taylor back into the match.  Taylor comes in and quickly takes Saeed down and nearly picks up the pin fall before it is broken up by Kong.  The match then breaks down as Kong and Sarita go at it on the floor and Taylor picks up the pin fall with a German suplex and bridge.

After the match, Kong clears the winners out of the ring as she stares down Saeed.  Lauren catches up with the winners on the ring entrance as Taylor says the two of them will make history by winning the TNA Knockout Tag Team Championship on Sunday.

Jeremy Borash is with Kurt Angle who says he is the top guy in the business and is the very best.  Angle says that people can either love him or hate him, but he will give it his all in the ring and has more pride than AJ Styles, Sting and Matt Morgan and will not be defeated at No Surrender.

Lauren is with Sting and AJ Styles and wonders what will happen when they become opponents at No Surrender.  Sting says he doesn’t think Styles would want him to step into the ring and allow Styles to win the match.  Styles says they both understand they are competitors but he feels it’s his time.

A video package highlighting the mind games that have been played between Kurt Angle and Matt Morgan is aired.  Kurt Angle is then seen walking towards the ring as he will be joining the announce team for tonight’s main event.

Match 8: Samoa Joe vs. Matt Morgan
Joe goes right on the attack before the opening bell and takes Morgan down to his knees.  Joe keeps on with the assault until he is finally taken down by a big boot from Morgan.  Morgan continues to wear down Joe but turns his focus to Angle, which allows Joe to get back into the match.  Joe hits Morgan with a backdrop but Morgan is quick to get up and slams Joe down hard to the mat with a choke slam.

Morgan begins to set up for the Carbon Footprint but Joe retreats to the floor as the match goes to the ringside area.  The two battle over to the announce table where Joe slings Morgan into Angle as he also gets into it and the referee calls for the bell as this match has been tossed out.  As Angle and Morgan battle, Daniels comes out and goes after Joe as they begin fighting on the ramp and we head into a commercial break.

We return to the action to see security having their hands full trying to separate Angle and Morgan.  The two are able to break free a few times to continue the fight until Angle gives Morgan an Angle Slam through the Motorcity Machine Guns table as Impact comes to a close.

Starman’s Thoughts
Although eight matches may have been a tad too much, tonight was a decent go-home show for No Surrender as it pretty much covered all of its bases as it pertains to the match line up in some way, shape or form.  TNA has shown in the past to give little attention to the undercard, so it was nice to see that get some focus.  With that said, one No Surrender match seemed to lack focus tonight, and that was the 4-way main event between Angle, Styles, Sting and Morgan.

It was surprising to see that the main event barely got even a mention until the show was nearly over.  Sting and Styles shared their thoughts but didn’t do much of anything else.  The main spotlight has been set on Angle and Morgan and their budding rivalry as it seems that the other two have been pushed to the side and are just extras in a grudge match.

At any rate, let’s hope that Angle slamming Morgan through the Motorcity Machine Guns announce table puts an end to their commentary duties.  While I love the Guns, I really am getting annoyed by their “commentating” skills and would much rather see them in the ring instead of outside of it.

Maybe it was because of their announcing but it seemed like a majority of the roster was on tonight when it came to doing promos.  D’Angelo Dinero, ODB, Rhino and Team 3D all shined tonight on the microphone.

I would even go as far as tonight being the first time ODB said something that was actually relevant in months as she talked about the history of the Knockouts Division and how she will not allow Cody Deaner to become its champion.  Let’s just hope it ends like the way she said it will.

The finals of the Knockout Tag Team Tournament have been decided and it will be the Beautiful People taking on the team of Taylor Wilde & Sarita for the Knockout Tag Team Championship.  Unfortunately, the Beautiful People most likely won’t be wrestling as their usual team with Angelina Love being released from TNA, but at least they have some sort of contingency plan as Madison Rayne is back with the group.  My guess is that she will be taking Love’s spot in the finals… even though her original team lost in the first round.

While I am on the subject of Madison Rayne, I felt that it was odd tonight that she was able to spray perfume into Christy Hemme’s eyes during the semi-final match in plain view of the referee, however, if Abyss enters the ring with a barbed wire baseball bat, like he did during the Foley/Nash match, that the match is automatically thrown out.  Some sort of consistency would be nice after giving the referees so much power when it comes to calling matches.

Finally, what I really want to know is where Raisha Saeed was during the lumberjack match.  Have to give Alissa Flash or Raisha Saeed credit for pulling double duty on a show.

As always, don’t forget to come back this weekend for my No Surrender preview and predictions.
