TNA/SpikeTV Come to 3-Year Deal
TNA and SpikeTV have come to terms with a new 3-year deal that also includes a new series of specials that will air on the network. The press release about the announcement can be found on tnawrestling.com.
The deal will extend Impact through to October of 2012 and will give TNA a series of 10 1-hour specials that they will produce. It is said that the specials will highlight some of the greatest bouts in the history of TNA, some of which have never aired on cable television.
It isn’t much of a surprise to see that SpikeTV has extended their partnership with TNA in terms of Impact as the show is one of their highest rated shows. The addition of the specials is an extra bonus for TNA and it will be interesting to see what they come up with.
The “Best of 2008″ show that aired earlier this year could very well a template for these shows as it not only aired pay-per-view matches, but it also featured comments from the wrestlers during the matches. I particularly enjoyed that aspect of the show as it gave the viewers a little something extra than just seeing a match that had already taken place.
I would really enjoy it if another weekly show were to come out of their relationship – even a weekly one hour show could greatly help their product in my mind. It could very well be that the specials are a way for TNA and SpikeTV to get their feet wet before jumping in to a long term deal for a second show. One can hope, at least.
At the very least, this will keep me busy through 2012.
