Foley’s Last Stand? (7/9 Impact Recap)

Foley’s Last Stand? (7/9 Impact Recap)

Impact opens with a recap of last weeks events where Jeff Jarrett smashed a guitar over Mick Foley’s head.  It also highlights Sting’s return and him taking Kurt Angle’s World Championship belt.

The Impact intro hits and we are welcomed to the show by Mick Foley who is making his way to the ring with a bandage over his nose.  Foley says he has come to the conclusion that TNA should not have two different providers calling the shots.  He proposes that either he or Jeff Jarrett step down from the role of a decision maker.

Jarrett’s music hits as he comes down to the ring and says that the two of them are cut from the same mold and are competitors.  He says Foley has proved that he still has it by winning the TNA World Championship and will be a legend without it.  Jarrett wants Foley to think why he came to TNA and how the two of them can work together for the future of the company.

Foley says he has to prove something to himself and wants to see if his last championship reign was a fluke or not.  Foley says he is going to go for the championship one more time and to do it not only for himself, but for Jarrett and all of the fans.

Foley then books Kurt Angle in a match against Jeff Jarrett for a tune up match.  Jarrett says he wants to tweak the match a bit and makes it a three way dance with Foley also involved.  Foley then adds that Angle can add a special guest referee to which Jarrett says it cannot be a member of the Main Event Mafia and it cannot be Matt Morgan.  The two then shake hands and agree on the match.

Lauren is backstage with the British Invasion and Doug Williams says he is going to give someone a chance to win Homicide’s Feast or Fired briefcase tonight and all they have to do is beat him.  Brutus Magnus chimes in and says that they don’t want to pander to American fans and are only there to make money.

Doug Williams comes out to the ring where the Feast or Fired case is hanging high above the ring.  Williams issues an open challenge and says he wants a real wrestler to challenge him this week.  The challenge is answered by Homicide.

Match 1: Doug Williams vs. Homicide (Ladder Match for Feast or Fired Briefcase)
The bell rings and quickly goes on the attack and takes Williams down with a clothesline.  Homicide slides a ladder into the ring and goes for the briefcase by Williams is able to knock him off the ladder.

Williams sets the ladder up in the corner and sends Homicide into it before slowly going for the case.  Homicide, though, is able to get up and knock the ladder causing Williams to fall on the rest of the British Invasion on the floor.  Homicide begins to climb up the ladder and Team 3D keep the British Invasion out of the ring and Homicide retrieves his briefcase.

Team 3D continues to assault the British Invasion out on the floor until Sheik Abdul Bashir and Kiyoshi come out to help them out.  The numbers game is too much for Team 3D who leave them lying in the ring.

Don West and Mike Tenay run down tonight’s card that will feature Tara against Velvet Sky, the Motorcity Machine Guns vs. Beer Money, Kevin Nash & Matt Morgan against Daniels & AJ Styles, plus it will be Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Jarrett vs. Mick Foley with a special guest referee in the main event.

An interview between Suicide and Mike Tenay is aired.  Tenay talks about the lyrics of his theme song and Suicide talks about his torment and being left with two choices – life or death.  He then says Suicide does not represent the end but the beginning.

A video highlighting the changes within the MEM is aired.  Sting’s music then hits as he comes down to the ring with the TNA World Championship.  Sting tells Kurt Angle that he has his belt and tells him to come get it.  Until then, though, he wants to talk to Samoa Joe and calls him out to the ring.

Joe comes out and Sting tells him it is because of guys like Joe why the Mafia came to be.  Sting says Joe wants everything but doesn’t want to work for it.  Sting then says that Joe pissed him off and Joe tells Sting that he has been instructed to keep his temper but his time will come.  Sting wants to know who is pulling his strings and Joe says he will find out at Victory Road.  Sting says he will find him tonight and tear him apart piece by piece in front of the fans.

Lauren is backstage with Jenna Morasca and wants to know if she has been training for her match against Sharmell at Victory Road.  Jenna says she has tons of money and could buy Sharmell if she wanted to but she has instead gone out and bought a personal trainer.  Raisha Saeed comes in and says Kong was paid to destroy and that’s what she will do.

Match 2: Motorcity Machine Guns vs. Beer Money, Inc.
Scott Steiner and Booker T join the broadcast team for this match up.  Scott Steiner says he hates white trash and rednecks and that is what Beer Money is.  James Storm and Chris Sabin start out in the ring and quickly fight out to the floor where the Machine Guns get the advantage.  Sabin and Shelley use quick tags to work Storm over with double team moves before they get crossed up and take each other down.

Roode is tagged into the match and takes down both members of the Machine Guns and nearly picks up the pin fall after a spinebuster on Shelley.  Storm then nails Sabin with the Last Call before the two of them take Shelley down with the DWI for the pin fall victory.  Beer Money then turns their attention to Booker & Steiner who share a few words.

Angelina Love is backstage talking about herself and Velvet Sky tells her that she is not her puppet and says that leaving her in the ring with a spider on her last week was unacceptable and if she doesn’t have her back this week the two of them are through.

A video package highlighting Sarita is aired and she will be making her debut next week.  This brings us to our Knockout match up.

Match 3: Velvet Sky vs. Tara
The match starts and Velvet Sky goes on the early offensive and tosses her around the ring before picking up a two count.  Tara is able to make a comeback with a series of clotheslines and hits the Widow’s Peak to get the pin fall.  After the match, Tara takes her tarantula out of its cage and is about to put it on Velvet Sky but Angelina Love gets her to stop by challenging Tara to a match.  Tara agrees as long as the Knockouts Championship is on the line.  Love agrees to it as we head into a commercial break.

Match 4: Angelina Love vs. Tara (TNA Knockout Championship)
The bell rings and Tara goes for a few quick roll ups but Angelina is able to kick out of them all.  Love rolls out to the floor to regroup as Madison Rayne pulls Tara out to the floor.  Rudy Charles sees the interference and he sends Madison to the back.  The fight continues on the floor before Angelina rolls her back in and tries for a pin attempt.  Tara is able to find an opening and is able to take Love down with the Widow’s Peak for the pin fall to win the TNA Knockout Championship.

After a commercial break Lauren is backstage with Tara who is excited to be the Knockout Champion.  Tara says she is happy to be part of the TNA family and thanks her pet tarantula and says that they did it.

Footage of Abyss at Dr. Stevie’s office is aired and we see Abyss attack Stevie in his office.  Abyss begins to act a bit strange and Stevie says he drugged the water that he drank.  Stevie begins to slap him around as he is paralyzed and cannot defend himself.  Stevie then busts the water glass over his head as the segment ends.

Match 5: Matt Morgan & Kevin Nash vs. Daniels & AJ Styles
The match starts and the two teams go back and forth until Morgan and Nash gain control and begin methodically working over Daniels.  Morgan takes Daniels down with the Carbon Footprint but it isn’t enough to keep Daniels down with a nonchalant cover.  Morgan then chokeslams Daniels into the turnbuckle but he still kicks out of a pin attempt.

Finally, some miscommunication causes Morgan to knock Nash off the apron which gives Daniels time to tag in Styles, who comes in like a ball of fire and takes out both opponents.  Styles nails Morgan with the Pele kick to knock him down to the canvas.  Daniels then hits the B.M.E. and Styles hits the frog splash to pick up the pin fall.

After the match, Nash attacks Daniels and Styles from behind and Morgan joins in on the beating.  Morgan traps Daniels’s leg in a steel chair and gives the chair a leg drop to possible severely injury Daniels’s leg and knee.  Styles then comes into the ring with a chair and chases Nash and Morgan away as the trainers come out to check on Daniels.

We head to the parking lot where she is trying to get a word with Samoa Joe who is standing in the corner.  A Porsche pulls up and it is actually Sting standing in the corner as he heads towards the car.  Joe then comes out from nowhere and chokes Sting out to prevent him from seeing who his advisor is.

Eric Young’s music hits as he comes out in referee stripes and he will be the special guest referee for the main event.

Match 6: Mick Foley vs. Jeff Jarrett vs. Kurt Angle
Jeff Jarrett and Mick Foley surround Kurt Angle before they both go on the attack against the TNA World Champion.  The two take turns with Angle before EY gets in Jarrett’s face over his officiating.  Foley then accidentally hits Jarrett before brawling with Angle and heading out to the floor.  Foley methodically works Angle over and sends him into the guard railing before bumping into Jarrett, who drives Foley into the steel steps with the Stroke.  We then head into a commercial break.

We return to the match to see Angle in control and is stomping on Jarrett as Scott Steiner comes down to the ringside area and nails Foley with a lead pipe.  Meanwhile, Angle continues to work Jarrett over in the ring but Jarrett fights his way back into the match and takes Angle down with a couple of clotheslines before driving him down to the mat with a tornado DDT.  Jarrett then hits the Stroke but EY performs a very slow count until Foley comes in and breaks up the count.

Jarrett goes out to the floor and grabs his guitar and EY stops him as he turns into Foley who applies the mandible claw.  Angle breaks that up with the Angle Slam and Jarrett breaks that up and puts Angle in a figure four.  Foley breaks the submission hold and Angle puts Foley in an ankle lock.  Foley won’t give up but EY calls for the bell and says that Foley submitted.

After the match, Jarrett begins beating on EY and chases him to the back with a folding chair.  In the ring, Foley applies the mandible claw on Kurt Angle but the rest of the MEM come to the rescue and begin laying the boots to Foley.  They wrap Foley in barbed wire as security come out to the ring to try to put an end to this as Impact comes to a close.
