TNA is celebrating seven years as a promotion by heading to the Palace of Auburn Hills for the annual Slammiversary pay-per-view. As is the tradition with Slammiversary, the event will be headlined by a King of the Mountain match for the TNA World Championship. A second KotM match will also take place for the X Division Title along with five additional matches on the card.
- Mick Foley vs. Jeff Jarrett vs. AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle (King of the Mountain match for the TNA World Championship)
- Team 3D vs. Beer Money, Inc. (TNA Tag Team Championship)
- Suicide vs. Jay Lethal vs. Consequences Creed vs. Alex Shelley vs. Chris Sabin (King of the Mountain match for the X Division Championship)
- Angelina Love vs. Tara (TNA Knockout Championship)
- Matt Morgan vs. Sting
- Raven & Daffney vs. Abyss & Taylor Wilde (Monsters Ball Mixed Tag Team match)
- Daniels vs. Shane Douglas
Mick Foley vs. Jeff Jarrett vs. AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle (King of the Mountain match for the TNA World Championship)
The four challengers took part in qualifying matches on Impact for a chance at becoming the champion in the King of the Mountain match. Jeff Jarrett has been in a power struggle with Mick Foley while Samoa Joe has his sights on taking out Kurt Angle. Foley also announced that if he comes out as champion he will only defend the championship once per year.
I highly doubt that Foley will retain the championship with the odds stacked against him. With the personal feuds going on in this match it would seem that AJ Styles would have an advantage as the other four would be hell bent on taking each other out. However, last month I stated that Jeff Jarrett would win the TNA World Championship and I can’t help myself but to pick him once again, just for the record books.
Starman’s Prediction: Jeff Jarrett to win the TNA World Championship
Team 3D vs. Beer Money, Inc. (TNA Tag Team Championship)
Beer Money won a title shot against Team 3D by coming out as the winners of a Tag Team Invitation Tournament that was hosted by the champions. Beer Money and Team 3D held respect for one another but winning the tournament and setting their sights on the titles have changed Beer Money’s tune as of late.
The last time these two teams met it was about respect and saw Team 3D coming out on top by winning the TNA Tag Team Championship for their 22nd career tag team championship. Respect has been thrown out the window for this one as these two teams will stop at nothing to come out on top. I have to give Team 3D the edge, though, as I don’t see them giving up the titles that quickly.
Starman’s Prediction: Team 3D to retain the TNA Tag Team Championship.
Suicide vs. Jay Lethal vs. Consequences Creed vs. Alex Shelley vs. Chris Sabin (King of the Mountain match for the X Division Championship)
Suicide will be defending the X Division Championship in a King of the Mountain match against four guys who not only want the title, but who also want to unmask him. Lethal Consequences and the Motorcity Machine Guns haven’t always seen eye to eye and there is a bit of tension between the two teams, however, they have shown that they can work together in the past few weeks.
The odds are seemingly against Suicide in this match and I would be surprised to see him walk out as the champion. There is a great chance that he is unmasked during or after the match, which will go to one of the Motorcity Machine Guns in front of their hometown crowd. I am predicting that Chris Sabin, who hasn’t held the X Division Championship since 2007.
Starman’s Prediction: Chris Sabin to win the X Division Title.
Angelina Love vs. Tara (TNA Knockout Championship)
Tara made her TNA debut a few weeks ago and went directly after the Beautiful People and the TNA Knockout Champion, Angelia Love, after Love issued an open challenge. Tara defeated Madison Rayne in her first match and will face Love at Slammiversary for the Knockout Championship.
This match felt rushed to me and I wish there was more of a build up to it. I’m not saying Tara (or Victoria) does not deserve a title shot but this match could have meant so much more than the standard title match that it has become. Maybe that will come down the road as I feel Angelina will remain on top of the Knockout Division, which will happen with a little help from the Beautiful People.
Starman’s Prediction: Angelina Love to retain the Knockout Championship.
Matt Morgan vs. Sting
Matt Morgan has been lobbying for a spot within the Main Event Mafia for a while now but his requests have been falling on deaf ears. To prove his worth, Morgan assisted Kurt Angle in a King of the Mountain qualifying match against Sting, although it appeared that Angle disapproved of Morgan’s involvement.
Morgan then confronted Sting and said the reason he isn’t in the Mafia because he hasn’t held a World Championship, nor has he been given the opportunity to defeat a World Champion. Morgan asked Sting for a chance to beat a World Champion and Sting sweetened the deal by putting his Godfather role in the MEM on the line.
With that said, there is only one possible way I can see this match ending and that is with Kurt Angle assisting Morgan to take away Sting’s leadership role within the Mafia.
Starman’s Prediction: Matt Morgan defeats Sting to become a member of the Main Event Mafia.
Raven & Daffney vs. Abyss & Taylor Wilde (Monsters Ball Mixed Tag Team match)
Last month at Sacrifice Taylor Wilde and Daffney fought in the first ever Knockouts Monsters Ball match. One month later the two knockouts will be in another Monsters Ball match, but this time they will have two Monsters Ball veterans along with them in Abyss and Raven, who returned to TNA a few weeks ago and aligned himself with Dr. Stevie and Daffney.
Monsters Ball matches are nothing new for Abyss and Raven, who been on opposite sides in three times in this style of match. Abyss has the most overall experience as he has been in every one with the exception of the Knockouts Monsters Ball match. Abyss has only come out once as the winner and he will have a tough time becoming a two-time winner with the likes of Raven and Daffney going up against him and Taylor Wilde.
Starman’s Prediction: Raven & Daffney to pick up the victory.
Daniels vs. Shane Douglas
After seeing Daniels return to TNA, Shane Douglas has taken a personal vendetta against Daniels as Douglas feels he never got a second chance in the promotion. Douglas has attacked Daniels a couple of times before Daniels finally challenged Douglas to a match and put his TNA roster spot on the line.
The Franchise has had a single warm up match on Impact against AJ Styles where he tapped out to an arm bar. The loss has deterred his confidence, however, as he promised to franchise Daniels at Slammiversary. By that, I am assuming Douglas means passing the torch to the younger generation. Daniels will easily win this match.
Starman’s Prediction: Daniels to win the match.
Slammiversary is one of the premiere pay-per-view events on TNA schedule, however, this year’s line up seems to have fallen a bit flat. Part of it is due to the fact that the matches either weren’t given the proper build up and part of it is because some of the matches are rehashes of ones that have already been done. The quality of the undercard doesn’t help matters either.
TNA claims to be innovative but we get not one, but two, King of the Mountain matches on the same card. I, for one, wouldn’t be opposed to having a Slammiversary take place without a King of the Mountain match for once and would like to see a simple one-on-one match for the most prestigious title. How’s that for innovation?
At least the event is taking place outside of the Impact Zone, so the crowd should be into the matches and the atmosphere will be a bit livelier. Looking at the card, though, there isn’t a single match that could really be a show stealer in my opinion.
Slammiversary could really be hit or miss pay-per-view, with a high probability of it being a miss.
As always, live coverage of Slammiversary will be on Gerweck.net starting at 8:00 EST.
