Sting to Retire?

The Wrestling Globe Newsletter is reporting that Sting’s career with TNA may come to an end at Bound for Glory in October.  The report states that his contract expires around that time and he would likely get a nice send off comparable to the one that Ric Flair got last year with the WWE.

Of course, there has been talk of Sting hanging up the boots for quite some time but he has yet to leave the world of professional wrestling.  With that said, Sting recently turned 50, so it would come to me as no surprise if this is in fact true.  Plus he has had some knee problems which has cut down his in ring abilities in recent months which could weigh in on his decision.

Sting hasn’t been the flag bearer of TNA as he once was with WCW, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t deserving of a proper send off.  He has the nickname of ‘the Icon’ for a reason and I hope that him taking over the Godfather role of the Main Event Mafia is the beginning of a four month long build up to his final match.

In my opinion, Sting is the final chapter in an era that is long gone.  While others around him have left the business, some with their lives in ruins and their bodies in shambles, Sting has persevered and kept going.  He has had a tremendous run in professional wrestling and became a huge name and draw without being a part of the WWE, which in itself is a huge feat.

Everything must come to an end, though, and if Sting does leave wrestling in the coming months, he will leave as being one of the best of his time.  Sting’s name will be etched upon the top of the list with the likes of Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan.
