Sacrifice Preview & Predictions

Sacrifice 2009 PosterTNA’s May pay-per-view offering, Sacrifice, comes to us this Sunday live from the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida.  A theme for this year’s event ties in with the name of the pay-per-view in which the participants in the 4-way main event had to be willing to sacrifice something to get a chance at the TNA World Championship.  Along with the main event, there are six other matches with three of them being title matches.

- Mick Foley vs. Kurt Angle vs. Sting vs. Jeff Jarrett (4-Way Ultimate Sacrifice Match for the TNA World Championship)
- Booker T vs. AJ Styles (I Quit Match for TNA Legends Championship)
- Suicide vs. Daniels (X Division Championship)
- Angelina Love vs. Awesome Kong (Knockout Championship)
- Kevin Nash vs. Samoa Joe
- Taylor Wilde vs. Daffney (Monster’s Ball Match)
- Beer Money, Inc. vs. the British Invasion (Finals of Team 3D Tag Team Tournament)

Mick Foley vs. Kurt Angle vs. Sting vs. Jeff Jarrett (4-Way Ultimate Sacrifice Match for the TNA World Championship)
All four participants in this match had to be willing to put up a sacrifice in case they were pinned.  Mick Foley, of course, will lose the TNA World Championship.  Kurt Angle will give up his Godfather role in the Main Event Mafia if he is pinned.  Sting will hang up the boots if he is pinned and Jeff Jarrett will give up his stock in TNA if he loses.

Usually I dislike these overbooked TNA matches where the stipulations outweigh the match, however, this time it actually works as it gives the match a little something extra.  Due to the match sacrifices, I can potentially see this match playing out in several different ways.

Could Foley take Jarrett’s ownership in TNA?  Can Angle pin Jarrett and take over TNA like he always says he is going to do?  What if Sting pins Angle and takes control of the Mafia?  Can Jarrett defeat Foley and become the champion of the promotion he created?  There are plenty of possibilities here – all of them are really plausible.

Due to that, it is going to be hard to predict and I’m sure my mind will go back and forth until the match takes place, since I need to at least put one on paper, I have to go with Jarrett pinning Foley for the TNA Championship.  Jarrett’s name hasn’t been written in the history books as a TNA World Champion as of yet (not counting the NWA Championship) and this would be an opportunity, if not one of the last, to do so.

Starman’s Prediction: Jeff Jarrett pinning Mick Foley for the TNA World Championship.

Booker T vs. AJ Styles (I Quit Match for TNA Legends Championship)
Booker lost the Legends Championship to Styles at Destination X this past March.  This is Booker’s rematch for the title he created and it is going to be an I Quit Match.  To warm up for the match, Booker defeated Jethro Holliday in an I Quit Match while Styles has stated the two words are not part of his vocabulary.

Aside from that, the two have been getting lost in other feuds with current partners as Booker has been in a spat with Kevin Nash and likewise for Styles with Samoa Joe.  I’m guessing that this will be the final match between the two and Booker will walk out with his championship.

Starman’s Prediction: Booker T to regain the TNA Legends Championship.

Suicide vs. Daniels (X Division Championship)
For that past few weeks, the Motorcity Machine Guns and Lethal Consequences have tried to unmask Suicide while saying that it has been Daniels under the mask.  Daniels denies any part in the Suicide character and even came to his rescue recently on Impact to try to dispel any myths.  Due to the rescue, Daniels told Suicide that he owes him one.  I guess that came in the form of an X Division Title match.

This match has the potential to be a great one.  Regardless of the outcome of the match, I would be surprised to see if they keep the identity of Suicide a secret beyond this match.  I am going to have to say that Suicide retains the title but will be unmasked afterwards, be it by the hands of Daniels or any of the others who want him unmasked.

Starman’s Prediction: Suicide to retain the X Division Championship.

Angelina Love vs. Awesome Kong (Knockout Championship)
Angelina Love pulled out the upset at Lockdown when she defeated Awesome Kong and Taylor Wilde in a three-way match to win the Knockout Championship.  Since losing the title, Kong has taken out all of the members of the Beautiful People to get her hands on Love, including Cute Kip.

In a one-on-one match between these two Knockouts, Awesome Kong has the clear cut advantage.  With that said, I don’t think it is going to end just like that.  I think Love will hold on to the title for a while, so Kong won’t win the title just yet.  Angelina Love will either get herself disqualified or Raisha Saeed will turn on Kong and cause her to lose the match.  Kong as a face would work much better without Saeed in my mind anyway.

Starman’s Prediction: Angelina Love to win the match.

Kevin Nash vs. Samoa Joe
The feud between these two has been building for a long time ever since Samoa Joe called out Nash’s former partner, Scott Hall, for no-showing a pay-per-view.  Nash then became Joe’s “mentor” as he chased Kurt Angle for the TNA Championship and then turned on Joe and cost him the title against Sting at Bound for Glory IV.

The two met the following month with Nash get the tainted victory.  Joe would get one on Nash, however, in a Six Sides of Steel tag team match but Joe was taken out for months after the match.  Since his return, Joe has been repackaged and has brought his “nation of violence” along with him.  With that said, this match will more than likely end like Joe’s recent matches, in a disqualification on Joe for a blatant disregard for the rules.

Starman’s Prediction: Kevin Nash will win via disqualification.

Taylor Wilde vs. Daffney (Monster’s Ball Match)
Daffney was brought in by Taylor Wilde and Roxxi as the Sarah Palin impersonator to mess with the Beautiful People.  For weeks they pulled the wool over the Beautiful People’s eyes and made a mockery of them.  The Beautiful People retaliated, however, and cut Palin’s hair which turned her back to the crazy Daffney persona.

Daffney then posed as a secret admirer of Taylor’s and used it as an opportunity for a sneak attack since Taylor didn’t help her out when she was being attacked by the Beautiful People and having her hair cut.  This match, the first Monster’s Ball Match between Knockouts, was then made.  This style is right up Daffney’s alley and she should get the win in this match.

Starman’s Prediction: Daffney to win the Monster’s Ball Match.

Beer Money, Inc. vs. the British Invasion (Finals of Team 3D Tag Team Tournament)
After winning the TNA Tag Team Championship, Team 3D decided to give back to the tag team division and put on a tournament to give another tag team an opportunity to step up and not only win a $100,000 tournament, but to get a future shot at the TNA Tag Team Titles.  Beer Money, Inc. and newcomers the British Invasion outlasted six other teams and made it to the finals of the tournament.

This match could go either way in my opinion.  Beer Money could come out on top as they are an established team and still haven’t gotten a rematch against Team 3D after losing the titles.  The British Invasion, though, has looked good in the tournament and they have a third member in their corner by way of Rob Terry.  Plus, they also seem to have Sheik Abdul Bashir and Kiyoshi in their pocket as well.  There is strength in numbers and the Brits should get the win.

Starman’s Prediction: The British Invasion to win the tournament.

All in all this is a stripped down pay-per-view with only seven matches, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is going to be a flop.  While I am not a huge fan of having all of the established aging talent in the main event, it does work well.  There are also plenty of potential of good matches between Suicide and Daniels, Beer Money and the British Invasion and Booker T and AJ Styles could put on a good show in the I Quit Match.

This is a secondary pay-per-view and it isn’t being held in the most opportune of weekends (Memorial Day weekend), but it is a huge step up for having a pay-per-view that mostly features a tag team tournament, which was the case last year at Sacrifice with the Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament.

As always, live coverage of the event will be taking place on Gerweck.net at 8PM EST.
