Lockdown Preview & Predictions

Lockdown Preview & Predictions

TNA is taking its annual Six Sides of Steel extravaganza, Lockdown, on the road to Philadelphia, PA.  They have built up two huge main events with Sting defending the TNA World Championship against Mick Foley and a Lethal Lockdown match with the Main Event Mafia taking on Jeff Jarrett and the TNA Originals of AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels.

Here is a run down of the entire card:
- Sting vs. Mick Foley (TNA World Championship)
- Team Angle vs. Team Jarrett (Lethal Lockdown)
- Beer Money, Inc. vs. Team 3D (TNA Tag Team/IWGP Tag Team Title vs. Title Philadelphia Street Fight)
- Suicide vs. Black Machismo vs. Sheik Abdul Bashir vs. Consequences Creed vs. Kiyoshi (X Division Xscape Match for X Division Title)
- Awesome Kong vs. Taylor Wilde vs. Angelina Love (TNA Knockouts Championship)
- ODB vs. Madison Rayne vs. Daffney vs. Sojourner Bolt (Queen of the Cage)
- Motorcity Machine Guns vs. the LAX vs. No Limit (IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship)
- Abyss vs. Matt Morgan (Doomsday Chamber of Blood)
- Danny Bonaduce vs. Eric Young

Sting vs. Mick Foley (TNA World Championship)
At Destination X, special guest enforcer Mick Foley accidently hit Sting with a steel chair nearly costing Sting the championship.  The following week on Impact, Foley intentionally hit Sting again with a chair due to Sting trying to protect Foley in the ring.  Sting then challenged Foley to a match at Lockdown and Foley promised to tear Sting apart.  Bang!  Bang!

As far as TNA build up and hype goes, the match between Sting and Foley is top of the line.  I have said before that Sting and Foley are past their primes, however, if they are on the same page and deliver with the type of intensity that they have been in their promos, then this match could be a great nostalgic trip down memory lane.  This, of course, could be a clunker of a match but Foley is no stranger to cage matches and could make it memorable.

As for the winner of the match, I have picked against Sting the past two months and both times he has made me look foolish by retaining the championship.  This time I am going with him and saying that he will retain against Mick Foley.

Starman’s Prediction: Sting to retain the championship against the Hardcore Legend.

Team Angle vs. Team Jarrett (Lethal Lockdown)
Lethal Lockdown is a staple match for this pay-per-view and the two captains were decided in a 20-Man Six Sides of Steel Gauntlet that took place on Impact a few weeks ago.  The two final men in the gauntlet would be captains, which ended up being Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle.  Joe, however, had no interest in being a captain and Jarrett took the spot and picking Joe, AJ Styles and a returning Christopher Daniels on his team.  Angle, on the other hand, picked his MEM teammates of Booker T, Scott Steiner and Kevin Nash.

Due to the match style with participants entering in intervals, the two teams had a series of matches to determine what team would get the advantage.  Team Angle won 2 of the 3 matches to gain the man advantage over Team Jarrett.  However, not only does Team Angle have the man advantage, but Scott Steiner has been trying to persuade Jarrett to join their side with the Main Event Mafia.  Jarrett has said that he will do what is best for himself and his family.

The build up for this match has been great and the added aspect of Steiner getting in Jarrett’s ear has been a nice touch.  I think I’d be surprised if Jarrett did turn on the originals because I really don’t see it happening.  TNA does like to go against what I think will happen, so it is entirely possible.  With that said, I have to side with Team Jarrett to pick up the win.

Starman’s Prediction: Team Jarrett to win the match.

Beer Money, Inc. vs. Team 3D (TNA Tag Team/IWGP Tag Team Title vs. Title Philadelphia Street Fight)
Along with the two main event matches, this one has also gotten a great build going for it.  Beer Money, who has been mainly used as a comedy tag team but finally wants to get some respect and be known as the best tag team in the world.  Team 3D has also put up their IWGP Tag Team Championship on the line in a match that will take place in their own backyard of Philadelphia, PA.

Since this newfound respect has been formed, the two teams have been watching each others backs so there are no excuses with both teams on top of their game.  To show what Beer Money can do, though, they took out a visiting Balls Mahoney and Brother Runt.  After leaving them in a pile of their own blood, Team 3D made their cage match a Philadelphia Street Fight, which means the cage door will be open and will be freely to move out of it.

With both pairs of tag team gold on the line, it is hard to predict who will walk away as the champions.  I would like to see Beer Money win but with everything being in Team 3D’s favor – such as the street fight aspect and with the match taking place in Philadelphia – I have to side with Team 3D.

Starman’s Prediction: Team 3D to win the TNA Tag Team Championship.

Suicide vs. Black Machismo vs. Sheik Abdul Bashir vs. Consequences Creed vs. Kiyoshi (X Division Xscape Match for X Division Title)
Another Lockdown staple is the X Division Xscape Match.  Usually, though, there are one or two competitors that you know for a fact don’t have a chance.  This year, though, I could see any one of them walking away with the X Division gold.  In the match, wrestlers are eliminated by pin fall or submission until the final two where they need to escape from the cage to win the match.

Out of the five participants, four of them are partners, with Creed and Lethal being tag team partners while Bashir and Kiyoshi are in the same faction.  Suicide, the X Division Champion, is the odd man out.  This could work in his favor, however, as the other two teams work to eliminate each other.

It is due to this that I have to side with Suicide to win this match, plus he seems to be getting over with the fans as there have been a ton of Suicide shirts in the Impact Zone as of late.  It will be interesting, though, to see if Kaz resumes the role as Suicide in this match or if Christopher Daniels will be doing double duty at Lockdown.

Starman’s Prediction: Suicide to escape the cage to retain the X Division Title.

Awesome Kong vs. Taylor Wilde vs. Angelina Love (TNA Knockouts Championship)
The Beautiful People have been going around and cutting people’s hair as of late.  Their latest victim was Awesome Kong, who Angelina Love has set her sights on as she wants to get her hands on the Knockouts Championship.  Taylor Wilde, on the other hand, has been a thorn in Kong’s side and has been one of the few to actually have pinned Kong.  As of late, though, the two have been working together to go against the Beautiful People.

Kong seems to be headed for a face turn and I think that this would be an opportune time for her to drop the Knockouts Championship.  The Beautiful People is one of the best acts going in the Knockouts Division and I feel that it is time for a reign with one of them at the top.  Plus, as this is a triple threat match, Kong won’t even need to be pinned to lose the title.  It will then turn into Kong being the hunter instead of the hunted.

Starman’s Prediction: Angelina Love to win the Knockouts Championship.

ODB vs. Madison Rayne vs. Daffney vs. Sojourner Bolt (Queen of the Cage)
This match has seriously had zero build whatsoever and barely got a passing mention on Impact.  Since they had this match last year I guess they are having it once again.  You’d think they would at least have last year’s winner, Roxxi, in the match as she isn’t doing anything, but I guess not.  Anyway, I guess I just pick one at random and I’ll go with Daffney.

Starman’s Prediction: Daffney

Motorcity Machine Guns vs. the LAX vs. No Limit (IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship)
The Motorcity Machine Guns won the IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship from No Limit at Global Impact 2 a few months ago.  A rematch between these two teams is going to take place inside the Six Sides of Steel.  For some reason or another, whether I have forgotten or if it just wasn’t explained, the LAX has also been added to this match.

This match could be interesting as these teams all have a high octane offense and it should be a lot of fun to watch.  In the end, however, I have to side with No Limit to regain their IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship back from the Motorcity Machine Guns, as the Guns always seem to be on the losing end of things.

Starman’s Prediction: No Limit to regain the IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship.

Abyss vs. Matt Morgan (Doomsday Chamber of Blood)
These former tag team partners have been going at it for a couple of months now with each Abyss and Matt Morgan winning a match.  I hope the rubber match between these two is the last for a while and that the two can go their own separate ways afterwards.

Abyss is going into this match against his doctor’s order.  This leads me to believe that Dr. Stevie will somehow be involved in the match and causing Abyss to lose and hopefully turns Abyss’ attention to Stevie Richards.

Starman’s Prediction: Matt Morgan to win the match.

Danny Bonaduce vs. Eric Young
This match is actually taking place before the show and will be available to watch via online streaming video.  This match is going to happen after Bonaduce, former member of the Partridge Family and Philadelphia radio host, insulted EY on his radio show.  This led to the two getting into a scuffle and the match at Lockdown was booked.

It has been said that this match was to take place live on pay-per-view but Dixie Carter decided to make it a pre-show match to give Lockdown a more serious tone.  I can’t disagree with that decision if there is truth in that statement.

Starman’s Prediction: Eric Young to win.

All in all, Lockdown should be a decent show, if not great.  There are a few filler matches and they have tried to cram in all of their talent in one way or another on to the big show, but the bigger matches should more than make up for it.  Plus, TNA has been hinting at two former World Champions being at the show, which gives their fans even more incentive to watch the event.

Plus, Lance Storm himself, who notoriously bashes TNA, has praised the build up and wants to everyone to see the show.  What more convincing do you need than that?

As always, live coverage of the event will be taking place on Gerweck.net at 8PM EST.
