War of Words

War of Words

A war of words has sparked between Vince McMahon and Dixie Carter.  In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, McMahon was quoted as saying his only problem with TNA Wrestling is that TNA is TV-14 and the WWE is PG and that “they have to change with the times.”  He went on to say that some of what they do on television is reprehensible, however, that is his only problem with the company.

Days later Dixie Carter fired back in an interview with The Sun saying that she thinks it is great that he watches Impact and agrees that a “brutal beating of a sixty-year-old man, a vicious home invasion and gratuitous man-on-women violence can be seen as reprehensible – and that’s just the last three Monday night.”

I have to give Carter credit for the well thought out response.  While McMahon didn’t go into detail as to what he thought was in bad taste, I have to go out and say that Samoa Joe and his huge machete can fall into that category.  While that may walk the fine line of good taste, there is very little difference in how both products are portrayed.

The WWE has lighted up in some aspects by toning down the blood and the language, but TNA has never been too over the top in my opinion.  Maybe being a grandfather has given McMahon a sort of conscience, but until TNA brings in the use of a firearm, gives birth to a hand and/or introduces a necrophilia angle, they may not want to toot their own horn.

As for TNA, whether Carter came up with what she said on her own or not, I am glad that they stuck up for themselves and didn’t take McMahon’s criticism lying down.
