No Surrender (9/14 PPV Recap)

No Surrender (9/14 PPV Recap)

A video package talking about the pain and anguish that the wrestlers go through to perform on their stage opens the show.  The package then focuses on the four participants in the main event and tells us that they will not surrender and are all worthy of victory but only one will be victorious.

The No Surrender intro airs as we head to the live crowd at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada for the first international TNA pay-per-view event.  The opening pyro goes off and we get things started as Sting’s music hits and he comes down to the ring.

Sting plays to the crowd in the ring and has a microphone in his hand.  Sting says it feels great to be back in Canada before announcing that he has signed a contract that will give him a shot at the World Champion at Bound for Glory.  Sting is taking some awkward pauses and stammers over his lines and looks lost during this promo.  He finds his way into talking about respect and the spoiled brats in the back and says that he is not going anywhere until the young guys know what respect is about.

We see footage of Christian Cage’s arrival to the arena as Mike Tenay tells us that he grew up only an hour away from Oshawa.  Mike Tenay then informs us that due to the extreme weather conditions in Texas and Hurricane Ike that Booker T was not able to make it to the event.  Tenay and Don West then run down the card for tonight before we head into the opening contest.

Curry Man tries to get Hemme to apply a headlock but all he gets is slapped across the face before Rave is tagged back in.  Shark Boy is tagged back in and Shark Boy is sent out to the floor where Rock tosses him into the guard railings a few times before rolling him back into the ring.  Rock is tagged back in a picks up a quick near fall before he begins working him over.

Hemme is tagged in and does a little showboating, which gives Shark Boy time to tag in Curry Man who unloads on Rock and Rave before he starts dancing with Hemme and giving her a kiss on the lips.  Curry Man then rolls her up for a pin attempt but she is able to kick out.  Don West then delivers the line of the night by saying “I didn’t know if I was watching a pin attempt or a porno movie right there.”

Back to the action, Rock is able to slam Curry Man down to the mat and Hemme delivers the FFG and covers but she is pulled off by Super Eric.  The action then breaks down until Shark Boy nails Hemme with the Chummer but is immediately tossed out of the ring by Rock.  As Rave is on the top rope, Super Eric tosses Rock into Rave and then hoists them both on his shoulders for a double Death Valley Driver.  Curry Man then comes in to check on Hemme as the referee makes the three count for the victory.

Match 2: Awesome Kong vs. ODB (Falls Count Anywhere)

ODB isn’t able to use the table as Kong levels her with a clothesline.  Kong then begins to climb the ring ropes and Saeed is about to hand her a chair but ODB recovers and powerbombs Kong through the table but the table doesn’t completely break.  It looks like both wrestlers got hurt on that one as ODB is slow to get up and goes for a cover but is only able to get a two count.

Abyss grabs the chair and begins looking at it but he hesitates and Ray is able to come in and hit him from behind.  Devon grabs the chair but Morgan swings him around and punches the chair into Devon’s face.  Abyss then hits the Black Hole Slam and picks up the pin fall victory.

As Abyss and Morgan celebrate their victory, Ray nails Abyss with a low blow before hitting Morgan from behind with the chair.  Ray then puts the chair on top of Abyss before leaving the ring.  When Morgan gets up he sees Abyss with the chair in his hands and begins accusing Abyss of hitting him before leaving the ring without his partner.

Williams is able to take Creed down on the outside with a hurricanrana but Bashir takes Williams down with a dropkick through the ropes.  Bashir follows with a quick pin attempt on Creed but Creed answers back with an ensuguri.  Williams comes back into the ring and tries to pick up the pieces and sets them up for a double Canadian Destroyer but Bashir is able to break it up with a clothesline.  Bashir then drives Williams down with a superplex and Creed flies into the ring with a double leg drop on both of them.

All three of them begin trying to finish the match off as Williams locks in the sharpshooter on Bashir but Creed breaks up the hold.  Williams hits the Canadian Destroyer on Creed but Bashir pulls Williams out of the ring and tosses him into the guard railing.  Bashir then slides into the ring and covers Creed for the pin fall and we have a new X Division Champion.

A video package focusing on the love triangle between Jay Lethal, SoCal Val and Sonjay Dutt is aired.  The Ladder of Love match between Lethal and Dutt is up next.

Match 6: Sonjay Dutt vs. Jay Lethal (Ladder of Love)
A platform is hanging above the ring where the ring is sitting on top of a red velvet pillow.  SoCal Val is standing ringside for this match and Dutt brings her a single rose when he comes down to the ring.  Lethal ups him by bringing a bouquet of roses.

The match starts with a quick exchange between these two X Division competitors.  Lethal sends Dutt out to the floor and dives through the ropes and knocks him in the guard railing.  Lethal moves the railing closer to the ring and places one of the ladders between the ring and the railing and slams Dutt on the ladder.

While Lethal is occupied with the other ladder, Dutt hits him from behind and takes over the control of the match.  It doesn’t last long as Lethal delivers a back body drop over the top rope and onto the ladder once again.  With Dutt on the floor, Lethal sets up a ladder in the ring and heads for the ring but Dutt is able to spring up to the ladder and send Lethal down to the canvas.

Dutt sets the ladder up again and heads for the ring but Lethal gets up and knocks him off the ladder.  As he climbs up Dutt places the second ladder between the ring ropes and one of the steps and pulls Lethal down onto the ladder.  Dutt then delivers a back splash onto Lethal who is sprawled across the ladder, which gets a “TNA” chant.

Lethal and Dutt begin fighting with the second ladder and it gets stuck onto the top of the one standing in the ring.  Lethal tries to catapult Dutt into the top ladder but he doesn’t even come close to hitting it which gets a round of boo’s from the crowd.  Lethal takes the top ladder down and places it in the corner and flings Dutt into a few times before he begins to ascend the ladder one more time, but Dutt is able to pull him down and crotches Lethal in the ladder.

Dutt begins to climb the ladder as Lethal dropkicks the ladder and knocks Dutt down to the canvas. Dutt comes back and sticks Lethal’s head in the rungs and places him in the tree of woe before dropkicking the ladder.  Dutt begins setting up a couple of chairs in the entrance ramp with a ladder across it and Dutt drives Lethal across with a neckbreaker.

As Dutt positions a ladder in the ring, Lethal comes in with his own and does the same.  They both climb up their ladders and Dutt puts Lethal across them both and applies the camel clutch across the top of the ladders.  Lethal is able to counter by sending Dutt over his back and down to the mat below but he is too far to reach the ring.

As Lethal comes down the ladder his leg gets caught and the referee and SoCal Val come to his aid as Dutt begins yelling at Val.  Lethal crawls over to console Val and soon both Lethal and Dutt are climbing the same ladder as Val comes in from behind and delivers a low blow to Lethal.  Dutt is then able to climb the ladder and grab the ring from the pillow to win the match.

Dutt places the ring on Val’s finger as they soon start making out in the ring.  In another great Don West line, he asks if he is watching “Skinamax” as Mike Tenay asks for a garden hose.

Jeremy Borash is backstage with Kurt Angle who says he is in a serious mood tonight even without Booker T being in the match.  Kurt Angle says he created this business and that Samoa Joe’s name doesn’t even belong in the same book as his does.  As for Cage, he doesn’t care if he is in his home country or not as Canada is still a toilet to him.  Plus, it won’t take the ambulance long to take him home.

A video package featuring the feud between the LAX and Beer Money is aired.  This match for the TNA Tag Team Championship is up next.

The LAX work over James Storm in the opening moments of the match until Jacqueline causes a distraction which gives Storm an opening to gain control of the match.  Roode and Storm work over Hernandez and wearing him down.  Hernandez looks like he is going to finally powerbomb Storm but Roode comes in and clips Hernandez from behind and continues to get the brunt of Beer Money’s punishment.

Storm is tagged in and tries for a high risk move but Hernandez catches him and tosses Storm over his head.  Roode is tagged in Hernandez makes it over to his corner to finally tag in Homicide who comes in and works Roode over and puts the momentum in his favor.  Homicide faceplants Roode into the canvas from the middle rope but Storm comes in and causes a distraction which gives Roode time to recover and nail Homicide with a spinebuster.

The match then breaks down with all four battling as Homicide and Roode are on the outside and Hernandez and Storm in the ring.  Storm spits beer into Hernandez’s face and powerbombs him from the middle rope and down to the canvas.  Hector Guerrero and Jacqueline get into it a bit as Hector steals a bottle of beer from her and hands it to Homicide, who tries to use it on Roode, but Roode is able to roll out of the way and Homicide breaks the bottle on the steel steps.

The match returns to the ring as Homicide hits the Gringo Cutter on Roode and sets up for the Gringo Killer but Jacqueline slides into the ring and tosses powder into Homicide’s eyes.  Roode then hits the Payoff and picks up the pin fall victory.  Beer Money quickly takes their belts and leave the ring after the match is over.

A video package highlighting Frank Trigg’s time in TNA and he will face AJ Styles in an MMA-style match and that match is up next.

Match 8: Frank Trigg vs. AJ Styles (MMA-Style Match)
The match will consist of three 5-minute rounds and the only way to win is by tap out or knockout.  Frank Trigg comes to the ring with an American flag and gets on the microphone and runs down the local Toronto sports teams before saying that he hopes it is the last time he has to come to the area.  Trigg is actually really good on the microphone and could teach some of the regular TNA stars a thing or two.

The first round starts and Trigg gets the early advantage by taking Styles down but Styles gets to the ropes and the referee breaks it up.  The bout spills out to the floor as it looks like Styles is hitting Trigg with some stiff shots.  Back in the ring, Trigg takes Styles down as a “boring” chant and a “we want wrestling” chant breaks out.  Another minute and a half of this boring match takes place and a “fire Russo” chant breaks out before the first round ends.

After a brief break, round 2 starts and they go right at it as a “this is bullshit” chant breaks out.  I can’t argue with the crowd as this is pretty horrible.  Styles finally unloads on Trigg as Styles catches Styles with a shot below the belt and the referee throws the match out.  The match is a no-contest but Styles is now sporting a nice black eye from a stiff shot.

Styles goes under the ring a fetches a kendo stick and unloads on Trigg before leaving the ring and heading over to the announce table and shouts at Tenay and West that he doesn’t do this crap and that he is a wrestler and angrily leaves.

Jeremy Borash is with Samoa Joe and asks if Joe is mentally ready for his match tonight.  Joe says that he feels like a cornered animal with Kurt Angle, Christian Cage and Sting come at him.  Joe says that he lost respect for Sting for his lack of participation although he is one of the highest paid talents on the roster.  Joe says he has been traveling to house shows across the nation and the planet while Sting sits at home.  He says he will respect him when he bleeds for TNA and sees his family for one day out of the month.

A video package, which still includes footage of Booker T, is aired to hype the main event.  The three-way match for the TNA World Championship is up next.

Match 9: Christian Cage vs. Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe (TNA World Championship)

The bell rings and both Cage and Joe go right after Angle.  It looks like they are trying to one up one another on the assault.  Angle is finally knocked out to the floor and the alliance between Joe and Cage is short lived as they begin going at it and trade blows.  Cage takes Joe down with an inverted DDT and picks up the first pin attempt but Joe kicks out.

Angle then grabs Cage’s foot from the outside and pulls him out of the ring and goes in after Joe to finally get in some offense in this match.  Angle gives Cage and Joe some suplexes, one of which sends Cage high over the rope and out to the floor.  Cage lands off of the padding and immediately grabs his knee.

Back in the ring, Angle locks in and wears down Joe with a sleeper hold.  Joe breaks out of it and sends Angle into the corner where Cage trips him up and crotches him in the corner.  Cage hits a high cross body block and picks up another near fall in the match.  The two then begin fighting on the turnbuckle when Angle comes back in and delivers suplexes on both of them once again.

Angle hits a series of German suplexes on Cage but Joe then hits Angle with an overhead release suplex.  Joe then goes for the muscle buster on Cage but he is able to squirm out of it and Angle comes in and delivers the Angle Slam but Joe is able to kick out of the pin attempt.  Cage begins to climb the ring ropes and Angle meets him in the corner as Joe comes in and drives them both down with a powerbomb.  Joe tries to cover both of them but they are both able to kick out.

Angle recovers and tosses Joe out to the floor and tries to give a German suplex to Cage out to the floor but Cage holds on to the ropes for dear life.  Angle gives up on the hold and locks in an ankle lock but Joe comes in and rolls up Angle from behind but he is able to kick out of the pin attempt.  Angle then puts both Joe and Cage in a double ankle lock but they work together to roll out of it.

Joe and Cage go at it and Joe hits the muscle buster as Angle distracts Earl Hebner to prevent Joe from picking up the pin fall.  Joe then sends Cage out to the floor onto Angle and then jumps over the top rope and lands on both of them.  Joe rolls Angle back into the ring and tries for another muscle buster but Angle counters and drives Joe down with the Angle Slam.

Cage then flies in and hits Joe with a frog splash and tosses Angle out to the floor.  Cage hits the Unprettier and Angle pulls Hebner out of the ring as he is making the count.  Angle then sends Hebner head first into the guard railing and brings a steel chair into the ring.  Angle crushes Cage with the chair and tosses him over the ropes and out to the floor.

Angle then nails Joe with the chair and puts him in the ankle lock but the referee is out.  Jeff Jarrett then comes down to the ring with a guitar and smashes it over Angle’s head.  Joe then hits the muscle buster on Angle as Jarrett rolls Hebner into the ring to make the slow three count for Joe to pick up the victory.

Jeff Jarrett hands Joe his title and raises his hand as Mike Tenay tells us that Joe will face Sting next month at Bound for Glory as No Surrender comes to a close.
