No Surrender Preview & Predictions
TNA is taking No Surrender on the road and will come to us live from the General Motors Centre in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. This will mark the first time a TNA pay-per-view has taken place outside of the United States and TNA has stacked the deck with nine matches, four of them being title matches.
Here is a rundown on the card:
- Samoa Joe vs. Booker T vs. Kurt Angle vs. Christian Cage (Four Ways to Glory for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship)
- Beer Money, Inc. vs. The LAX (TNA Tag Team Championship)
- Petey Williams vs. Consequences Creed vs. Sheik Abdul Bashir (X Division Title)
- AJ Styles vs. Frank Trigg (MMA Match)
- Abyss & Matt Morgan vs. Team 3D
- Taylor Wilde vs. Angelina Love (TNA Knockout Championship)
- Jay Lethal vs. Sonjay Dutt (Ladder of Love Match)
- Rock n’ Rave Infection vs. Prince Justice Brotherhood
- ODB vs. Awesome Kong (Falls Count Anywhere)
Samoa Joe vs. Booker T vs. Kurt Angle vs. Christian Cage (Four Ways to Glory for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship)
Jim Cornette announced that the main event for No Surrender would be Samoa Joe defending the World Championship against three others in a Four Ways to Glory match. Cornette then set up three qualifying matches to determine Joe’s opponents and they are Booker T, Kurt Angle and Christian Cage. Booker T and Kurt Angle have formed an alliance of sorts over the past couple of weeks and Christian Cage will be wrestling with his hometown fans cheering him on.
As for the champion, it seems that Joe has been distracted with Sting actions as of late and has lost his focus on the match. It appears that Joe has Jeff Jarrett on his side to help deal with Sting, but there always is the wildcard in the mix with Kevin Nash. The rocky relationship between Joe and Nash was smoothed over this past Thursday, but that doesn’t mean Nash won’t get involved in this match. Plus, there is always a chance of Mick Foley showing up somewhere in this match as well.
With three guys gunning for the title and all of the outside distractions, the odds are against Joe in this one. I said in the last Impact recap that Christian Cage would be a dark horse in this match and I think he may have a legitimate chance at walking away with the title. However, with TNA’s biggest pay-per-view of the year just around the corner, I have to say that Samoa Joe will defy the odds and walk away from this match.
Starman’s Prediction: Samoa Joe to retain the World Championship.
Beer Money, Inc. vs. The LAX (TNA Tag Team Championship)
Last month at Hard Justice, Beer Money pulled off an upset and stole the Tag Team Championships from the LAX after James Storm smashed a beer bottle into Homicide’s face. Since then, Homicide has been on the shelf and is wearing an eye patch, while his partner, Hernandez, has been a one-man wrecking crew by defeating both Storm and Robert Roode in singles matches.
Seeing as these two team fought in a regular matchup last month, I am shocked to see that TNA didn’t attach some gimmick or stipulation to this match. They had a decent match up at Hard Justice and I don’t expect anything less from this one either. Hernandez has made the tag team champs look weak over the past few months in singles matches, but with Homicide’s vision being in question, Beer Money may be too much for the challengers to handle.
Starman’s Prediction: Beer Money, Inc. to retain the titles.
Petey Williams vs. Consequences Creed vs. Sheik Abdul Bashir (X Division Title)
Consequences Creed battled Petey Williams last month at Hard Justice and came up short due to interference by Sheik Abdul Bashir. A few weeks later, Bashir once again interfered in a rematch between the two and seemed to have gotten on the bad side of both Creed and Williams.
Creed and Bashir would meet in an X Division #1 contender’s match where Creed would come out on top due to some biased officiating from referee, Shane Sewell. Because of that, Jim Cornette decided to give both
competitors a spot in the match, making it a triple threat match for the X Division Title.
I don’t foresee any alliances being formed during this battle of nationalities. I can guarantee a lot of high flying X Division action, however, and this match should be a fun one to watch. Creed is the only full fledged face in the group, but I expect to hear Williams get a lot of cheers during this one as he will be near his hometown of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The hometown crowd should be enough to give Williams the edge to retain the X Division gold in this match.
Starman’s Prediction: Petey Williams to retain the title.
AJ Styles vs. Frank Trigg (MMA Match)
AJ Styles faced Christian Cage in a Four Ways to Glory qualifier but interference from Frank Trigg helped cause him the match and a shot at the TNA World Championship. Styles called out Trigg for his actions and Trigg challenged him to a mixed martial arts match. The match will consist of three five-minute rounds and can only be won by submission.
This will be Frank Trigg’s TNA in-ring debut and he already is the odds on favorite due to it being a MMA match. This type of match will take Styles out of his element and it should be fairly easy to predict that Trigg will be 1-0 after this debut match. However, I don’t think this will be the last time these two will face each other and Styles will get his chance to get his comeuppance on Trigg in a match more suited to his style in the future.
Starman’s Prediction: Frank Trigg to win the MMA style bout.
Abyss & Matt Morgan vs. Team 3D
Team 3D has beat down both Abyss and Matt Morgan on separate occasions where the other have come out to the rescue. The two big men have formed an alliance of sorts and have begun teaming with each other and lost their first match together against the team of Kurt Angle and Booker T this past Thursday on Impact.
Abyss and Morgan don’t have a lot of momentum going in to this match as they have been using on the receiving end of a sneak attack and having lost their first match together this past Thursday. Dealing with the 20-time tag team champions won’t be an easy task either. Their lack of experience as a team and Abyss’ restraint to using any type of weapon will be their downfall in this match. Team 3D have no problems using tables and will pick up the win in this one.
Starman’s Prediction: Team 3D over Abyss & Morgan.
Taylor Wilde vs. Angelina Love (TNA Knockout Championship)
Angelina Love is challenging for the Knockout Championship and has made a point to humiliate the champion, Taylor Wilde, by any means necessary. Love, along with her partners Velvet Sky and Kip James, have given Wilde a makeover, tried to cut Wilde’s hair, and attacked her after a beauty pageant. Taylor, though, has had an ally in Rhino to help even up the odds a bit.
Taylor Wilde is an unlikely champion but she has always stepped up to the challenge to retain her title. Angelina Love has the numbers advantage with Velvet Sky and Kip James in her corner, which will play a factor in this match, but Wilde’s new alliance with Rhino should help counter that. Rhino will be able to keep Sky and James from costing Wilde the match and she will end up retaining over Love.
Starman’s Prediction: Taylor Wilde to retain the championship.
Jay Lethal vs. Sonjay Dutt (Ladder of Love Match)
Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt have been fighting over the love of SoCal Val for months now. At Hard Justice, these two met in a Black Tie Brawl and Chain match, in which Lethal came out victorious. A few weeks later, Val ended up in the middle of a brawl between the two where she suffered a concussion and a black eye. Fed up with their actions, Val proposed the two fight over her ring in a ladder match where the winner will get her hand in marriage.
As stupid as the storyline is, I am actually looking forward to this match. Sure, the story between the three has been drawn out for far too long but Lethal and Dutt should be able to deliver the goods for an enjoyable ladder match. I really hope that this match ends the feud between these two with SoCal Val leaving both the winner and loser of this match, however, my gut is telling me that this will still be going on into Bound for Glory with Val eventually turning heel and siding with Dutt.
Starman’s Prediction: Sonjay Dutt to steal the victory in this one.
Rock n’ Rave Infection vs. Prince Justice Brotherhood
A few weeks ago, the Prince Justice Brotherhood served the Rock n’ Rave Infection with a subpoena for disgracing rock music and a small brawl ensued. The following week, Christy Hemme got involved in a post-match beat down and Jim Cornette signed this six-person tag team match of Lance Rock, Jimmy Rave and Christy Hemme against Curry Man, Shark Boy and Super Eric.
It amazes me that the Rock n’ Rave Infection is even in a pay-per-view match. As of late they have been on the losing end of everything they have been in and this one should be no different. This match will be the one true low point of No Surrender and will be even worse as it is almost guaranteed to be ruined by lame attempts at comedy.
Starman’s Prediction: Prince Justice Brotherhood to win to help sell more PJB merchandise.
ODB vs. Awesome Kong (Falls Count Anywhere)
With Gail Kim’s TNA status up in the air, it appears that the feud between these two big women has been reignited. ODB has welcomed a challenge from Awesome Kong as she thinks that TNA isn’t big enough for the both of them. Kong has answered back by giving ODB an Implant Buster after a match where ODB defeated Kong’s advisor, Raisha Saeed, and tried to remove the burka from her face.
A falls count anywhere match should be right up the alley for these two knockouts. Kong has an obvious size advantage, but the nature of this match can help even the odds for ODB. ODB and Kong are hands down the two most powerful women in the Knockouts Division and this match, while it won’t be a wrestling clinic, should be a lot of fun to watch. This match can really go either way, but I have to give the advantage to Kong as she not only has the size advantage, but she also has Saeed in her corner.
Starman’s Prediction: Awesome Kong to take the victory.
All in all, No Surrender should be an entertaining night even if TNA dropped the ball on a few of the matches and it didn’t get a great build up. The live crowd should be hot for the most part, especially since there are many fellow Canadians participating in the bigger matches, such as Christian Cage, Robert Roode, Petey Williams and Angelina Love, and there appears to be a few decent matches on the card as well.
No Surrender may be used to start off the hype for Bound for Glory IV, but the big matches on the card and the fact that Jeff Jarrett is scheduled to be at the event and TNA is teasing the fact that Mick Foley will be present, this one might be one of the better pay-per-view events of the year for TNA.
Don’t forget that Gerweck.net will be providing live coverage of No Surrender starting at 8:00 PM EST this Sunday.
