A Pair of Releases

It has been reported that TNA has recently released a couple of its contracted talent from its roster.  Unlike the Kaz announcement from a week ago, these releases more than likely have some fact based within them and aren’t being used to further an angle.

In what can be considered as the bigger release of the two, ProWrestling.net is reporting that Tomko has finished up with the company and was saying his goodbyes at the pair of Impact tapings that took place this week.  Along with that, Black Reign (Dustin Rhodes) was also given his release from the company.

To be honest, I wasn’t too thrilled with Tomko’s earlier work in the WWE.  During his time in TNA, though, his character started to grow on me, as well as some of the other fans, especially during his run as one half of the tag team champs along with AJ Styles. Things were looking up for Tomko as it seemed that he was coming into his own character with his own personality.  Fans started to take notice and at Lockdown, he was given the opportunity to captain his own team against Team Cage.  Prior to the event, however, Tomko went and performed overseas against TNA’s wishes and shortly paid the price afterwards.

The first Impact broadcast following Lockdown, Tomko & AJ Styles would go on to lose the TNA Tag Team Championships in a triple threat tag team match and Tomko was handed a 30-day suspension for his insubordination.  On top of that, reports are saying that he wasn’t easy to work with as he rejected several ideas and never wanted to work with the company on numerous occasions.

Unlike Tomko’s release, it appears that Dustin Rhodes was released on amicable terms as creative just didn’t have anything for him to do.  As many already know from my weekly Impact recaps, my thoughts weren’t too high on Black Reign and his tag team partner, Rellik, but I do think that it’s unfortunate for Rhodes to always be pigeonholed in these type of character roles (Goldust, Seven, Black Reign) as they always limit him in terms of how he is used.  I guess hiding the fact that he is the son of a hall of fame wrestler is better than acknowledging the fact that he is the son of a hall of fame wrestler.

I wish them both the best of luck in the future and hope to see them on my television screen again some time soon.
