Sacrifice (5/11 PPV Recap)
A video package airs in which Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle and Scott Steiner are all talking about what it means to them to be World Champion. They also talk about what they can do and what they are willing to do to walk out of Sacrifice as the World Champion.
We see Kurt Angle arrive at the Impact Zone as Jeremy Borash waits for him to ask about the neck injury he suffered in South Korea. Angle says that his doctor will not let him wrestle tonight and he has to listen to him. Angle says if it were up to him, he’d step into the ring, but he can’t afford to risk permanent injury by doing so.
Lauren met up with Scott Steiner’s limo, which also has Petey Williams, Rhaka Khan and Rick Steiner inside. Steiner says that he doesn’t trust what Kurt Angle says and hopes that this means he will finally get his 1-on-1 match against Samoa Joe. As Steiner heads into the Impact Zone, Kevin Nash is seen exiting his limo and walking in with him.
Finally, Borash meets up with Samoa Joe, who says it is a shame that he isn’t the one to have injured Angle’s neck. Joe then says that he doesn’t care who is put into the match against him because he will be walking out with the title. Borash brings up the fact that Nash walked in with Steiner earlier and Joe just walks away.
The Sacrifice intro airs as Mike Tenay and Don West hype the Deuces Wild Tournament, the TerrorDome match and a Knockout will have her head shaved in a Makeover Battle Royal. Plus, the main event will feature Samoa Joe against Scott Steiner in a 1-on-1 match for the TNA World Championship.
Match 1: Team 3D vs. James Storm & Sting (Quarterfinal Deuces Wild Tournament Match)
Team 3D start this match out by powering James Storm around the ring and picking up a couple of near falls. Jacqueline comes in and begins yelling at Brother Ray but all she gets in return is a smack on the ass. This gives Storm an opportunity to get over to his corner where Sting reluctantly tags into the match.
Sting comes in and power slams Ray and levels him with a clothesline before he retreats to the floor. Ray comes back in and tags in his brother and he locks Sting in a headlock. Sting fights his way out and takes Devon down with a shoulder block as Sting and Storm get into an argument. This allows Team 3D to regain the advantage as Storm turns his back on the match and begins drinking a beer.
Devon connects with a headbutt from the second rope before trying a second time and coming up with canvas. Sting fights back against both members of Team 3D and tries to hit them both with a Stinger Splash in the corner but Team 3D get out of the way and Sting ends up hitting the turnbuckle. Devon nails Sting with a flying headbutt to the crotch as they then slide in a table as Storm is seen standing ringside.
Team 3D sets the table up in the ring as Storm climbs onto the turnbuckle and tells them to put Sting through it. Team 3D look confused before slowly walking away as Sting picks up Storm and slams him through the table. Sting leaves the ring as Devon covers Storm to pick up the win and advance in the tournament.
Lauren is backstage with Frank Trigg and asks about what happened to Kurt Angle. Trigg says that he was dropped onto his head and it reinjured his neck. He then said that he tried to work out but it just wasn’t getting any better. As for the match tonight, he has to go with Samoa Joe as he is already walking in with the belt and is more explosive than Steiner.
Match 2: Robert Roode & Booker T vs. Christian Cage & Rhino (Quarterfinal Deuces Wild Tournament Match)
Robert Roode has a look of disbelief when it is announced that Booker T is his tag team partner. The two get into a shoving match and even have to be split up by security before Christian Cage & Rhino make it to the ring.
The bell rings and Rhino and Cage work over Roode as Booker stands on the apron with an unenthused look on his face. Cage tries to put Roode away early on with the Unprettier, but Roode is able to escape and begins to take control of the match.
Roode works over Cage for a bit and nearly picks up the win with a spinebuster, however, Cage is able to make a comeback as he plants Roode’s head down to the canvas with a tornado DDT. Booker then makes a blind tag to get into the match and drops Cage with a clothesline.
Booker works over Cage in the ring but misses with an axe kick, which allows Cage to deliver an inverted DDT. Cage finally tags in Rhino but he isn’t able to keep the momentum going as Booker again takes control of the match. Booker is about to go for another axe kick, but Roode tags himself in and tries to go for the Payoff, but Rhino counters and nails him with a Gore. It looked pretty weak, but it was enough to pick up the win.
After the match, Booker T comes in the ring and shakes Cage and Rhino’s hands before leaving to get a chair and nailing them both with it. The referees come out to stop any more chair shots from happening as Cage and Rhino are laid out in the ring.
Jeremy Borash is in the locker room with Scott Steiner and the rest of his entourage. Steiner is trying to get Kevin Nash to help him out tonight and says that he will give Nash the first shot at the title when he wins it. Nash says that he will think about it and walks away.
Match 3: Kip James & Matt Morgan vs. The LAX (Quarterfinal Deuces Wild Tournament Match)
Homicide and Kip James stare off as James makes fun of Homicide’s size. Homicide takes him down with a dropkick before Hernandez nails him with a shoulder block. James retreats to the outside and Homicide dives over the ropes and lands on James and gets a high five from Don West. Morgan tosses Homicide back into the ring and tags in to the match. Morgan does his best old school Undertaker move and picks up a near fall before tagging James back into the match but Homicide is able to tag in Hernandez, who powers James around the ring.
Morgan comes in and the two big men go at it, but the distraction is enough for James to regain control. There is a bit of miscommunication, though, between Morgan and James as Morgan nails his partner with a big boot to the face. Hernandez comes back and nails Morgan with a dropkick and covers James to pick up the win to go on to the next round.
Jeremy Borash is standing by with AJ Styles and asks about his tag team match later on tonight, which will be against BG James & Awesome Kong. Kurt Angle comes into the picture and asks him if he is seeing his wife. Styles says he is not going to answer the question and tells Angle to take care of his neck.
Match 4: Super Eric & AJ Styles vs. BG James & Awesome Kong (Quarterfinal Deuces Wild Tournament Match)
James shakes hands with Super Eric as the match starts before attacking him from behind. The advantage doesn’t last long as Eric connects with a dropkick before tagging in Styles. James makes it into his corner and tags in Kong and Styles is able to get a couple of near falls on her before Kong nails him with a spinning back fist. While the referee is tied up with James, Kong grabs him with a crotch claw before tagging in James.
James and Kong work over Styles with quick tags in and out of the match and pick up a few near falls. Out of desperation, Styles finally connect the Pele kick on James before tagging in Eric, who lands a senton bomb on James before slamming Kong on top of James.
Eric tags Styles back in before diving over the ropes and landing on Kong on the floor. Meanwhile, Styles climbs up the ropes and is about to dive onto James but slips and eats canvas. James, who looks like he has a smirk on his face, picks up Styles but is immediately rolled up in a small package to lose the match for his team. Surprisingly, all four “established” teams have made it to the semi-finals.
Mike Tenay and Don West recap the first round of the Deuces Wild Tournament and hype the rest of the matches on the card as the TerrorDome is set up around the ring. Tenay then says that Cornette will make an announcement later on tonight about the main event match.
Lauren is backstage with Rick Steiner and asks why he is there tonight. Steiner says he is there to support his brother in his match before barking like a dog.
A video package highlighting the TerrorDome match is aired, which calls it the most challenging match in TNA. The winner of the match must escape from the hole at the top of the cage and that match is next.
Match 5: TerrorDome (X Division #1 Contender Match)
Curry Man, Sonjay Dutt, Consequences Creed, Shark Boy, Jimmy Rave, Kaz, Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Johnny Devine, and Jay Lethal are then ten fighting for an X Division title shot. Jim Cornette comes out prior to the start of the match and says he is going to sweeten the pot by allowing the winner to also take Kurt Angle’s place in tonight’s main event.
The bell rings as they start crawling up the sides towards the escape. The thick red bars make it hard to see exactly what is happening on the wide shots. Rudy Charles is stationed at the top in case two people try to escape at the same time. The MMG’s use their teamwork to their advantage as Creed makes it near the exit. Kaz stops him as Creed hangs from the top of the cage by his legs before going back down to the mat.
A big tower of doom in the corner takes out about six people at once as the crowd begins a TNA chant. After some more random fighting, Curry Man is able to toss Sonjay Dutt off the side of the cage and onto the rest of the wrestlers on the mat. Curry Man soon follows with a Spice Rack from the top ropes onto Jimmy Rave. That gets a “this is awesome” chant going from the crowd.
Johnny Devine drives Consequences Creed down to the mat with the Devine Intervention before climbing up the side of the cage. Kaz quickly follows him up and drops him onto the rest of the wrestlers below. Kaz then continues to climb up the side of the cage and up to the exit and escape the TerrorDome to win the match.
Jeremy Borash is sitting backstage with Samoa Joe and asks him about his thoughts about Kaz being in the main event. Joe calls him deserving but says business is business. Borash then asks about Nash being with Steiner and Joe flips out and says that he doesn’t care if Nash is with Steiner, but he will regret it if Nash crosses his path.
Match 6: Team 3D vs. Christian Cage & Rhino (Semi-final Deuces Wild Tournament Match)
Both Christian Cage and Rhino looked banged up after the chair shots they took after the last match from Booker T. Brother Ray works over the Cage’s neck and head in the opening moments of this match. Ray picks up a near fall after delivering a neckbreaker and then tags in his brother. Devon continues to work on the neck and head until Cage fights back with a series of chops and makes the tag to Rhino.
Rhino comes in and drives Devon down with a shoulder block but Ray pulls him down by the hair before he is able to follow up. Team 3D work over Rhino in their corner until Rhino is able to nail Devon with a spinebuster. Cage is tagged into the match a dives onto both members of Team 3D on the floor from the top rope. Devon then distracts the referee, which allows Ray to send Cage into the steel steps a few times before he is rolled back in to Devon.
Team 3D continues to work over Cage for a while until Cage is able to take Ray down with a hurricanrana as Ray was sitting on the ropes. Rhino and Devon are both tagged into the match and Rhino delivers a belly-to-belly to Devon and picks up a two count before Ray breaks up the count. Team 3D goes for the flying headbutt again but Cage is able to push Devon off the ropes to stop it from happening. Johnny Devine comes down to the ring with a kendo stick as Rhino takes both members of Team 3D down with a double clothesline.
Ray rolls out to the floor as Rhino slams Devon hard on the canvas. Rhino then spears Devon with the Gore as Devine hops into the ring and distracts the referee as Ray slides in and nails Rhino in the head with the kendo stick. Devon then covers Rhino and picks up the win to advance to the finals.
Jeremy Borash is backstage with Kevin Nash and tells Borash to follow him to see what Samoa Joe will do when they cross paths. Borash complies and follows Nash.
Match 7: AJ Styles & Super Eric vs. The LAX (Semi-final Deuces Wild Tournament Match)
Styles and Homicide go back and forth with a quick flurry of offense before they both tag in their partners. Hernandez and Super Eric trade shoulder blocks until they go at it with a test of strength. Hernandez powers him down to the mat and picks up a near fall but Eric comes back up and is able to send Hernandez through the ropes and out to the floor before leaping out with a cross body block onto his opponent.
The action goes back into the ring as Styles is tagged back in who nails him with a flying forearm but it isn’t enough to keep Hernandez down. Styles and Eric begin to tag in and out of the match while having Hernandez isolated on their side of the ring, until Hernandez is able to power Styles down to the mat and makes the tag into Homicide.
Homicide comes in and holds his own against Styles and Eric until Styles is finally able to get him set up for the Styles Clash, however, Homicide is able to counter with a gringo stunner. Homicide tries to follow with a Gringo Killer, but Eric jumps in from the top rope and nails Homicide to break up the move.
Hernandez comes charging into the ring and clotheslines Eric over the top rope as Styles rolls up Homicide in a small package. The referee is distracted by Salinas, though, as Hector Guerrero sneaks into the ring and rolls the small package over so Homicide is on top and they pick up the win to advance to the finals.
Lauren is backstage with some of Samoa Joe’s relatives and asks if they are concerned about his match tonight. One of them says that Joe brought the entire Samoan nation with him tonight as they begin to speak in Samoan.
Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins is in attendance tonight and is shown sitting with the crowd. Mike Tenay says that he is a huge sports fan and loves TNA wrestling.
Match 8: Knockout Makeover Battle Royal
Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Rhaka Khan, Salinas, Christy Hemme, ODB, Roxxi Laveaux, Jacqueline, Traci Brooks, and Gail Kim are all participants in this match to fight for a title shot.
The bell rings and the 10 go at it and Salinas is quickly eliminated. Angelina Love poured ODB’s flask out on her face as Traci Brooks eliminated Velvet Sky before getting eliminated herself. Rhaka Khan eliminates Christy Hemme and she is soon eliminated by some teamwork between ODB and Jacqueline. Their team is quickly eliminated, though, as they are pushed over the top rope by Laveaux and Kim. Love is then eliminated by a back body drop from Laveaux to bring us to the final two.
Since Gail Kim is one of the final two, Angelina Love can possibly have her head shaved as Kim has scored immunity. The referees make her sit in a barber chair set up at ringside as the ladder match between Kim and Laveaux begins. Laveaux goes for the ladder and nails Love with it but is stopped by Kim before bringing it into the ring.
Kim brings in her own ladder and begins to climb up but she is stopped by Laveaux, however, Kim is able to turn it into a hurricanrana. Laveaux and Kim begin going back and forth as Love slides in another ladder to Kim. Both Kim and Laveaux begin fighting at the top of the ladder as Kim powerbombs Laveaux down to the mat.
Kim comes up with some blood across her chest as Laveaux and Love get into it on the ring apron. Laveaux then goes after Kim and gives her a hard spinebuster onto a ladder. Laveaux then begins climbing up the ladder but Love pushes the ladder down and Kim goes up another ladder to grab the contract and wins the match. Laveaux is then seen what a shocked look on her face as she gets up from a puddle of blood on the mat.
The Beautiful People begin attacking Kim as Kim is trying to get Love in the barber chair. Laveaux comes in to help Kim but they are able to escape and run away. Laveaux is then forced to sit in the chair as a barber begins to cut her hair as the blood is still pouring out of Laveaux’s head. Some of the Knockouts try to console Laveaux as a huge “fire Russo” chant is heard throughout the Impact Zone.
Kevin Nash and Jeremy Borash meet up with Samoa Joe in his locker room. Joe tells Nash that if he tries anything tonight he will break him in half. Nash says that he did that to pick his brain and make him think that he is on his side. Joe says that he doesn’t need Nash and tells him that if he shows up around the ring he will be in his sights.
Match 9: Team 3D vs. The LAX (Deuces Wild Tournament Finals for Tag Team Championship)
The LAX go right on the attack against Team 3D on the outside of the ring to get this battle started. Team 3D, though, is able to turn it into their favor as Ray is able to suplex Hernandez onto the entrance ramp before hitting him a couple of times with a chair. Devon is able to send Homicide into the guard railing a few times before Hernandez is able to help his partner out and sends Devon into the ring as this match finally officially starts.
Team 3D is in control of the match in the early going as they both methodically work over Homicide. The announce team mentions that the LAX haven’t held the tag team titles since losing them to Team 3D over a year ago. Team 3D is able to pick up a couple of near falls in this slow paced match until Homicide is able to counter a double team move and tags in Hernandez.
Hernandez comes in and takes down both members of Team 3D with some fists and back body drops. Hernandez is able to send them out of the ring as he follows with a dive over the top rope onto both of them. Johnny Devine comes out and sets up a table in the ringside area as he is met by Hector Guerrero, who takes his stick and nails him in the head with it. Guerrero sets Devine up on the table and climbs up the top rope and comes crashing down on Devine, sending him through the table.
Back in the ring, Ray delivers a couple of hard chops on Hernandez before delivering a superplex. Devon flies in with a headbutt, but it isn’t enough to keep Hernandez down. Homicide comes in and Team 3D nails him with the 3D and Devon goes for the cover but Earl Hebner tells Devon that he isn’t the legal man in the ring. Hernandez then sends Devon flying with the Border Toss and Homicide follows with a frog splash to pick up the three count and become new TNA Tag Team Champions.
The LAX, along with Hector Guererro and Salina, all celebrate in the ring with the tag team titles as they soak up the cheers for the victory. Eric Young then comes to the announce table and says that the next pay-per-view is going to be in Memphis, TN, and he is going to find Elvis Presley. Mike Tenay tries to tell him that he has been dead for 30 years but Young doesn’t believe it.
Match 10: Kaz vs. Scott Steiner vs. Samoa Joe (TNA World Championship)
Frank Trigg joins the announce team for the main event match up tonight. Jeremy Borash does the formal introductions for the match and this match gets underway. Kaz goes for a couple of quick pins on Steiner before Joe takes them both down with a double clothesline. Joe works them both over and puts Kaz in a single leg crab before putting Steiner in an armbar.
Joe continues on the attack and knocks Steiner out to the floor and begins to power Kaz around the ring. Steiner finally trips up Joe and then sends him into the guard railing to turn this match around. Steiner then suplexes Joe on the entrance ramp and then turns his attention to Kaz, who he sends into the guard railing before going back into the ring.
Steiner delivers an belly-to-belly overhead suplex from the top rope on Kaz, but Steiner would rather pose than score the pin fall. Steiner then delivers a fallaway slam from the middle rope to Kaz and Steiner finally goes for the pin but it is broken up by Samoa Joe. Steiner comes back with suplexes to both Joe and Kaz before locking Joe in the Steiner Recliner. Joe, however, is able to stand up with Steiner on his shoulders as Kaz lands a missile dropkick on Steiner.
Kaz begins to use his quickness against Steiner but he is stopped shortly after by an overhead suplex by Joe. Steiner is then on the receiving end of a slam by Joe who then rolls to the outside. Rhaka Khan begins to distract the referee as Steiner grabs a pipe and nails Joe with it as Joe is diving through the ropes. Kaz then flies over the top onto Steiner and puts him back into the ring and picks up a near fall with a roll up but Steiner is able to kick out.
Kaz continues to work over Steiner in the ring as Joe is still laid out on the floor after that shot with the lead pipe. Kaz looks for a high risk move but Steiner distracts the referee as Petey Williams trips up Kaz and crotches him in the corner. Steiner then gets up and delivers a Frankensteiner to Kaz, but Joe is able to slide into the ring and break up the count.
Joe then regains control of the match and goes after both of his opponents and nearly picks up the win after a snap slam on Steiner. Joe sets up Steiner for what looks like an attempt at the muscle buster which would go out to the floor, but Kaz dropkicks Joe off of the apron.
Kaz tries for a Flux Capacitor on Steiner, but Steiner ends up slamming Kaz down to the canvas instead. Kaz tries again, but Steiner tosses him down to the floor, however, while Steiner is up on the turnbuckle, Joe comes in and drives him down with the muscle buster and picks up the pin fall on Steiner to retain the gold.
After the match, Petey Williams and Rhaka Khan check on Steiner as Samoa Joe celebrates with the World Championship and the Sacrifice pay-per-view comes to a close.
