Lockdown (4/13 PPV Recap)

A pre-taped segment with Mike Tenay standing in the Six Sides of Steel opens the show.  Tenay says that tonight it’s not only about the World Championship, but the career and livelihood of Samoa Joe.  Will tonight be Joe’s final stand?

A video package showing off the steel that surrounds the ring while previews of some of the high profile matches is aired.  The intro for Lockdown airs as we go to the live crowd in Lowell, MA and are welcomed to the show by Mike Tenay.

Don West is standing in the crowd and is asking people in the crowd who they think is going to win between Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle.  Jeremy Borash is also in the crowd in a different section of the arena and is standing next to a fan that is wearing a Triple H t-shirt.  Borash asks the same question to a few of the people around him before sending it back to Mike Tenay.  Tenay previews the X Division title match, and that one will kick off the show.

Match 1: Curry Man vs. Johnny Devine vs. Consequences Creed vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Shark Boy vs. Jay Lethal (Xscape Match for the X Division Title)
Mike Tenay runs down the rules of the match, where people can be eliminated by pin fall or submission until the final two remain.  Then it is the first one out to the floor that will win the match and walk away with the X Division title.  Sonjay Dutt begins working against Johnny Devine and the match quickly breaks down as Lethal and Dutt work together and take everyone down.

Lethal and Dutt are about the give Devine a double superplex off the top rope, but Shark Boy and Curry Man powerbomb them both down to the canvas as Devine hold on to the cage.  Creed, however, comes in and tosses Devine onto Curry Man and Shark Boy to be the last man standing in the ring.  After some more quick chaos in the ring, Shark Boy tries to eliminate Jay Lethal with the Chummer, but Dutt breaks up the pin attempt.  Devine then rolls up Dutt to pick up the pin fall and Dutt is the first one eliminated from the match.  There goes my pick.

Shark Boy goes right on the attack against Devine until Creed interferes and takes Shark Boy down with a fisherman’s suplex.  Creed then tries his luck with Curry Man but misses with a big splash in the corner.  Shark Boy and Curry Man team up as Curry Man goes for the Spice Rack on Devine and Shark Boy goes for a Chummer on Creed, but Creed counters and pushes Shark Boy into Curry Man.  Creed then follows up with the “Creed-DT” on Shark Boy and picks up the pin fall to eliminate Shark Boy from the match.

There is very little celebration for Creed as he goes right after Curry Man and nearly eliminates him as well.  Curry Man is able to turn the tide, however, and tries to head to the top of the cage until Devine begins to shake the cage which makes Curry Man lose his balance and nearly falls off.  Devine then misses with what West calls “something crazy,” on Lethal, which was a shooting star press, and eats canvas.

More fast paced action continues until Curry Man final leaps off the top of the cage and nails Creed and Devine with a moonsault.  Curry Man then follows with the Spice Rack on Creed and gets the pin to eliminate Creed.  Curry Man and Lethal then double team Devine and nearly eliminate him, but their partnership is short lived as Curry Man tries to pick up the elimination on Lethal with a roll up pin attempt.

Curry Man then nails Lethal with the Spice Rack and goes for the pin, but it is broken up by Devine, who follows with the Devine Intervention on Curry Man and picks up the pin fall for the elimination.  With Devine and Lethal left in the match, it is now an escape match to see who can make it out to the floor first.

With the cage door open, Devine starts heading out but Lethal is able to grab his leg and hold him in.  Devine then takes the tape off of his wrist and ties Lethal to the rope but Sonjay Dutt blocks the exit and tells him to go over the top.  Dutt then hands Lethal a tool to cut himself loose as Devine begins to climb the cage.  After freeing himself, SoCal Val opens the door and Lethal leaps out to the floor before Devine can escape to win the match and retain the title.

We see Lethal celebrate with Dutt and SoCal Val as we are treated to some of the match highlights.  Dutt looks to be getting a little close to Val as he hugs her before we are sent of to Jeremy Borash who is sitting with Frank Trigg.  Borash asks what it is like to be in high profile matches and what is going through the mind of Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe at this moment.  Trigg says that it is nerve racking but Angle has been in situations like this before.  Samoa Joe, on the other hand, hasn’t had many like this and doesn’t see any way for Joe to win this fight.

Match 2: Christy Hemme vs. Salinas vs. Jacqueline vs.  Traci Brooks vs. Angelina Love vs. Velvet Sky vs. Rhaka Khan vs. Roxxi Laveaux (Queen of the Cage)
Dave Penzer reminds us that they have to fight to get in the ring and the first two in will battle it out to become the Queen of the Cage.  The bell rings and the fight starts in the ringside area and Angelina Love is able to climb the side of the cage to be the first one in the ring.  Velvet Sky begins climbing the side of the cage as Roxxi Laveaux follows her up and stops her before she is able to climb over and into the ring.  The match will be Laveaux against Love for the Queen of the Cage.

The two stare each other down in the ring and get into a shoving match.  Laveaux manages to take Love down with a big boot to the face and nearly gets the win, however, Love turns the tide with a jawbreaker.  Love then bashes Laveaux’s head into the canvas and then takes her down with a boot to the face as well but she isn’t able to keep her opponent down for the three count.

Love continues on the assault and picks up a couple more near falls but Laveaux is finally able to kick Love off of her and sends her into the cage wall.  Laveaux then nails the Voodoo Drop on Love and picks up the victory to become the Queen of the Cage.  Laveaux has now earned a shot against Awesome Kong for the Knockout Championship.

The newest member of the TNA broadcast team, Lauren, is standing by with Samoa Joe.  Joe says he hasn’t thought about what he will do if he has to leave as he knows there is only one possible outcome, and that is winning the World title.

A video package airs in which Kip James warns BG James that he will become a tiger once he is locked in the cage.  Kip says that BG can either lie down and take a beating or fight and take a beating, either way Kip will come out on top.  BG’s portion of the package airs and he says that Kip brought this on himself by attacking his dad.  Inside of the Six Sides of Steel, Kip will have to deal with the caged D-O-double G.

Match 3: Kip James vs. BG James
Kip is quick to go on the attack even before the bell rings.  Kip lands a couple of kicks before landing a neckbreaker.  Kip slams the back of BG’s head into the cage a couple of times and continues to work over his former friend and tag team partner.  Kip slows the match down with a headlock until BG is able to fight his way out of it.  BG isn’t able to get in any offense, though, as Kip sends him face first into the cage.  Kip then lands the Fameasser but is slow to make the cover and BG is able to kick out.

Kip then tries for a Fameasser off of the second rope, but BG is able to move out of the way and connect with a low blow.  The two begin trading blows and BG sends Kip headfirst into the cage a few times before nailing him with a knockout blow.  BG nearly picks up the pin with a shaky knee drop but Kip is able to kick out.  BG slows down his offense after crotching himself on the middle rope and Kip looks like he is turning up the band.  Kip, however, misses with a splash in the turnbuckle and BG rolls up Kip to pick up the wins.

Kip James looks on in amazement and BG extends his hand out and the two shake hands.  Kip James then raises BG’s hand in victory before taking him down with a hard clothesline.  Kip stands over BG and delivers a crotch chop and the leaves the ring.

Borash is standing by with Kurt Angle and Angle stares off in the distance and is completely focused.  Angle says he saw Samoa Joe in TNA and knew that he had the same intensity as he himself has.  Angle says that tonight it’s not just about business, but it is personal and he needs to end his career.

Match 4: Rock n’ Rave Infection vs. Eric Young & Kaz vs. Black Reign & Rellik vs. Motorcity Machine Guns vs. the LAX vs. Scott Steiner & Petey Williams (Cuffed in the Cage)
During the ring entrances, there is a commotion going on backstage and we see Black Reign & Rellik beating the hell out of Eric Young.  Kaz comes to the aid of his partner as security comes in to break it up.  Rudy Charles comes out and tells Kaz that he has to get to the ring.  I guess Kaz has to start this match on his own.

The bell rings and all of the wrestlers go at it and Steiner begins giving overhead suplexes to everyone he can get his hands on.  The LAX team up on Steiner and everyone begins to turn their attention to Steiner and he is the first one cuffed in the match.  Eric Young comes out to the ring but can’t get into the cage as it is locked.  He begins to climb up the cage but the Monsters scare him off and he heads to the back.

Petey Williams is able to cuff Alex Shelley to the cage as Kaz nails the Wave of the Future on Sabin into the cage.  Kaz then cuffs Sabin to the cage and the Motorcity Machine Guns are taken out of the match.  Rellik & Reign double team Williams and get him cuffed to the cage to take out his team.

Reign and Hoyt are able to get Hernandez cuffed as Kaz delivers the Flux Capacitor on Rave from the top rope, which sends the crowd into a frenzy.  It appears that Homicide has also been cuffed and the LAX are now out of the match as well.  Kaz begins to hold his own against the Rock n’ Rave Infection and Reign & Rellik until he is finally sent crashing down to the mat with a choke slam from the top rope by Hoyt.  The Monsters pick up the pieces and cuff Kaz to the cage.

The two final teams begin to duke it out as the music of Super Eric hits and he makes his way down to the cage.  Eric climbs up to the top and takes down all four of them with a cross body block and cuffs Rave to the cage followed by Hoyt.  The Monsters spoil the party as they begin cuffing Eric to the cage, but somehow Rellik is the one that is cuffed.  Eric then lands the Super Eric Driver on Reign and cuffs him to the match to win the match.

After the match, Super Eric busts the cuffs off of his partner’s wrist and the two celebrate in the ring together.

Lauren is standing by with Samoa Joe’s father and older brothers.  Joe’s father says he has been working for this his whole life and that they are here to support him.  His father ends by speaking something in Samoan.

A video package highlighting the Knockout tag team match is aired and that match will be up next.

Match 5: Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed vs. Gail Kim & ODB
Raisha Saeed wrestles in an outfit much like a burka that conceals her face.  ODB and Kong square off at the start of this match and ODB gets in a few blows before Kong tosses her away and she tags Kim into the ring.  Kim motions that she wants to face Saeed and she is tagged into the match.  Saeed takes Kim down with an arm drag and continues to work on her arm before slamming Kim down to the mat and picking up a two count.

Saeed picks up another near fall on Kim with a bridging suplex but Kim is able to fight back with a dropkick and a hurricanrana before trying to score the pin fall with a roll up.  Saeed, however, distracts the referee as Kong sends Kim face first into the cage.

Saeed continues to work on Kim by crushing her head into the cage with her boot.  Saeed tags in Kong, who powers Kim around before tagging Saeed back into the match.  Kim is finally able to stop Saeed’s momentum with a spear and tags in ODB, who goes after both Saeed and Kong.  ODB delivers a fallaway slam and goes for the pin but Kong breaks it up.  Kim enters the ring and the match breaks down with all four in the ring as Saeed tries to deliver a powerbomb to Kim from the top rope but it is reversed to a top rope hurricanrana.  Kong, however, levels Kim with a clothesline and then misses a spinning backfist to ODB and nails her partner.  Kim flies in with a missile dropkick that takes down Kong and ODB lands a splash from the top rope onto Saeed to pick up the pin fall.

Jeremy Borash is backstage with Karen Angle ands asks why she is here since the relationship with her husband is on the rocks.  Angle says that he is still the father of their children and she will support him.

A video package highlighting the feud between Booker T and Robert Roode is aired.  The mixed tag team match of Robert Roode & Payton Banks against Booker T & Sharmell will be up next.

Match 6: Robert Roode & Payton Banks vs. Booker T & Sharmell
Sharmell wants to get into the ring, which distracts Booker and allows Roode to attack him from behind.  The two then trade chops in the corner until Booker levels Roode with a kick.  Roode comes back with a dropkick and a neckbreaker and tries for a pin attempt but Booker kicks out at two.

Roode slows the match with a headlock and Booker is able to fight out and levels Roode with another kick.  Booker’s offensive doesn’t last long as Roode drives Booker down to the canvas with a spinebuster.  Roode then misses with a clothesline and Booker takes him down once again with a kick.  Booker delivers a suplex and tries for the pin but Roode kicks out.  Booker delivers a spinebuster to Roode and gives the crowd a spinaroni.  Booker tries for an axe kick but Roode moves out of the way and sends Booker face first into the steel.

Sharmell tags herself into the match and begins to slap Roode until Payton Banks tags herself into the match.  Banks accidentally slaps Roode as Sharmell rolls up Banks for the pin fall.  Roode doesn’t look to happy about losing the match and begins to shout at Banks.  Roode cocks back to hit her but doesn’t go through with it and leaves her standing in the ring alone.

Lauren is backstage with UFC fighter, Marcus Davis, and asks about her training Samoa Joe over the past five weeks.  Davis said he covered every aspect of the fight and says that Joe came out a complete fighter.  He then says that Joe needs to stick to the plan to come out the winner in tonight’s match.

A video preview of Lethal Lockdown is aired and first part of the double main event will be up next

Match 7: Team Cage vs. Team Tomko (Lethal Lockdown)
Christian Cage starts it off for his team and Tomko comes out for his team, but AJ Styles is in the ring and attacks Cage from behind to start things off for Team Tomko.  Styles and Cage will go at it for the first five minutes before the next person comes out and it will be someone from Team Tomko.

Styles delivers a huge dropkick on Cage and drives him down with an inverted DDT.  Styles finally misses with a flying forearm and Cage comes back with a clothesline.  Cage tries to follow up but misses with a frog splash and Styles tries for the Styles Clash but Cage reverses into an inverted DDT.  Cage tries for the Unprettier, but Styles reverses into the Pele kick and Brother Ray comes out to the ring wearing a Derek Jeter jersey.

Ray slams the door on Cage’s face and puts him in the Boston crab as Styles drops down on Cage’s head.  The two then work over Cage and slam his head into the steel until Rhino comes out to even the odds.  Rhino takes down Ray with a belly-to-belly suplex and tries for a Gore, but Styles kicks him out of the way.  Ray begins working Rhino over in the corner as Cage stands on Styles’ throat.

James Storm is the third person out for Team Tomko and goes right after Cage and hits the Eye of the Storm.  Styles and Rhino begin fighting on the top rope until Styles kicks him down to the canvas.  Cage climbs up and him and Styles fight at the top of the cage until Cage falls out to the floor.

Kevin Nash is the next one in the match for Team Cage, but their team is still at a disadvantage with Cage outside.  Nash delivers the snake eyes to Styles as Cage and Ray then takes Nash out at the knee.  Cage begins climbing up to the top and takes Storm and Ray down with a cross body block.  Bodies are laid out everywhere in the ring and Brother Devon is the next one to come out.

Team 3D work together on their opponents, first by sending Cage face first into the steel and then by taking Rhino down with a double shoulder block.  They then work over Nash and his knees and then Ray grinds Cage’s face into the steel.  Matt Morgan comes out next to help out Team Cage and takes Styles and Ray down with big boots.  He then sends Devon flying into the cage and slams Styles down to the mat.

Tomko comes out to complete his team of five and brings a chair with him to the ring.  Earl Hebner takes the chair away from him before he enters the ring and Tomko goes right after Cage.  Devon is bleeding from his forehead but it doesn’t stop him from choking Morgan over the top rope.

Sting’s music hits as he is the tenth and final man to come out to the ring and he explodes on all five of his opponents and nails Styles and Storm with low blows before the top of the cage is lowered into place.  Garbage cans, bats, kendo stick, chairs and more or hanging from the top and a battle ensues with everyone using a weapon.

Storm climbs out to the top and Cage follows him and gets hit in the head with a garbage can lid.  Storm nearly falls through the cage ceiling as Cage repeatly nails Storm with the lid.  Mass chaos is still going on in the ring as Morgan and Nash both deliver choke slams to Team 3D.  Sting locks Tomko in the Scorpion Death Lock but Styles nails Sting and the rest of his teammates with a kendo stick.

Cage sets up a table on the top of the cage and Styles climbs out and nails him with the trash can lid and places him on the table.  Styles sets up a ladder and climbs even further up but Cage gets up and meets Cage on top of the ladder and they trade blows until Storm pushes the ladder down and they go crashing into the table.  Storm climbs back down into the ring and smashes a beer bottle in Morgan’s face but he turns around in time to be gored as Rhino picks up the win for his Team Cage.

A video package highlighting the historic feud between Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe is aired.  Wrestlers and other talent voice their opinions on who they think will win the match between these two.  The second part of the double main event will be up next.

The bell rings and they dance around the ring with them trading a few kicks.  Joe rolls Angle into an ankle lock, but Angle gets to the ropes to break the hold.  Angle drops Joe and gets on him and delivers a few blows before he makes it to the ropes to also break the hold.  Joe then catches Angle with a kick to the face and tries to follow up but again Angle makes it to the ropes.

Joe begins stomping on Angle’s bare feet and takes him down with a hip toss but Angle comes back with a side suplex.  Angle follows with a submission hold but Joe manages to get his foot on the rope.  Angle doesn’t give up, though, and locks Joe in a chin lock and then takes him down with a belly-to-belly suplex.  Angle covers but Joe is able to get to the ropes to break the pin fall.

Angle tries for an armbar but Joe counters into a pin attempt, but Angle gets out before the count of three.  Angle then takes Joe out at the knee and puts in the figure four leg lock as the crowd starts to shout out “Whooo!” in memory of the newly retired Ric Flair.  Joe is able to use his weight to turn it over and reverse the hold but Angle is too close to the ropes.

Angle goes right after the legs again but Joe fights back with a huge clothesline that turns Angle inside out.  Joe connects with a knee to Angle’s face and tries for a muscle buster but Angle reverses into an ankle lock.  Joe is able to kick his way out of it and slams Angle down to the mat.  Joe then powerbombs Angle to the mat and gets a two count.  Joe doesn’t let go, though, a moves Angle around to get him in a Boston Crab.  Angle is inching near the ropes and Joe changes the submission move into a crossface.  Angle won’t tap and somehow reverses the hold into an ankle lock on Joe.  Trigg says that he is impressed with Joe and takes back half of what he said earlier and says that he was prepared for tonight’s match.  Joe then reverses the ankle lock back into a crossface but Angle is break out of the hold.
