TNA’s Reality Check

There were two statements about TNA on Gerweck.net yesterday that caught my attention.  Both statements were in separate reports and came from different individuals, however, they both dealt with the same issue, which is the overall product of TNA.

The statements came from two of the bigger players within TNA – one being the current World Heavyweight Champion, Kurt Angle, and the other being one of the co-founders of TNA, Jeff Jarrett.  Angle was reported to have said that TNA is addressing the amount of gimmick matches and interference they use.  Jarrett was reported to have said that he wants TNA to put out a more serious product and focus on more in-ring time.

After reading that I had to check my calendar to make sure it was no longer April Fool’s Day.  It was April 3rd, so these reports seem to be legit.  Of course, any of this has yet to happen, but it would be a grand idea to see the company move in that direction.

As of late, Impact has drastically cut down on the attempts at humor, which has improved their overall product.  We have also gotten a few flashes and flares of great matches on Impact as well, but for every good match we have to suffer through four or five other mediocre or downright bad ones during the rest of the broadcast.

I’m not trying to say that their talent is untalented, because that cannot be further from the truth.  It is just nearly impossible to have a good match in three minutes of time with a commercial break in the middle of it.  Yes, there will have to be some squash matches and some novelty matches to further storylines, such as the match that Traci Brooks and Payton Banks had last night, but I would much rather see three decent matches and one bad one as opposed to one good one and five that I will soon forget.

If this change does become a reality, I will welcome it with open arms as long as it helps improve the overall product.  The old slogan for the company was “We are wrestling,” and I would love for them to actually live up to that statement.
