Destination X (3/9 PPV Recap)
Destination X opens with footage of the Angle Alliance arriving at the arena earlier in the day. Kurt Angle says he is there early to try to get Jim Cornette to reverse the decision from this past Thursday’s Six Sides of Steel match that gives Christian Cage and his team the 3-on-2 advantage to start out tonight’s main event. AJ Styles seems to be more interested in where Karen Angle is at as Kurt tells him to get his head in the game for the biggest match of their lives.
The Destination X intro airs and we are welcomed to the pay-per-view by Mike Tenay and Don West who run down the matches on tonight’s card that is coming to us live from the Scope Arena in Norfolk, VA.
Match 1: The LAX vs. the Rock n’ Rave Infection vs. the Motorcity Machine Guns (#1 Contenders Match)
Mike Tenay brings up the fact that two of the three teams in this match have never held tag team gold in TNA. Homicide and Chris Sabin start this match out and Sabin tries to put this match away early with a couple of quick covers after some shoulder blocks but Homicide easily kicks out. Sabin tags in his partner and the MMG’s use some double team moves on Homicide until Lance Hoyt makes the blind tag on Shelley to enter the match.
Homicide tags in Hernandez and the two big men square off. Hernandez gets Hoyt up in a suplex and holds him there seemingly forever as the MMG’s and Homicide triple team Jimmy Rave around them. Hoyt is then sent to the outside and Shelley takes out Homicide with a superkick and Sabin charges after Hernandez but is tossed high over the top rope and onto the floor. On the other side of the ring, Rave drives Shelley onto the canvas near the ring apron and Hernandez dives over the top rope and into Hoyt on the arena floor which turns the crowd into a frenzy.
Homicide and Rave enter the ring and Sabin makes a blind tag on Homicide as both of the MMG’s enter and team up on Rave once again and nail the high and low kicks. Shelley tags in and drives Rave’s face into the canvas which allows him to pick up a two count. Shelley tries to continue on the assault, but is tripped up by Hoyt and Rave follows with a DDT.
Homicide makes a blind tag on Rave and nails Shelley with a t-bone suplex before tagging in his partner who gives Shelley a backbreaker. Homicide tags back in and double team Shelley a bit and goes for a pin attempt but he isn’t able to keep him down. Hoyt makes a tag on Homicide and tosses him out of the ring and into the guard rail and then delivers a huge fallaway slam on Shelley before tagging in Rave.
The RnR Infection isolates Shelley into their side of the ring and work him over with tags back and forth until Hoyt misses with a moonsault. Hoyt makes it back to his corner, however, to tag Rave back in but Shelley delivers a jawbreaker to Rave and crawls back to his corner but Hoyt knocks Sabin off of the ring apron. The RnR Infection then misses a double clothesline attempt on Shelley, who then tags in Hernandez.
Hernandez powers both Rave and Hoyt around the ring until Shelley comes back and takes Hernandez down with a kick to the face followed by Sliced Bread #2. Hoyt then comes back and slams Shelley down hard on the mat but Sabin flies in and takes Hoyt down with a tornado DDT. Homicide enters and gives Sabin a neckbreaker and then dives through the ropes and onto both members of the MMG’s and Lance Hoyt.
With the four on the floor, that means that Rave is left alone in the ring with Hernandez, who picks Rave up and delivers the Border Toss to pick up the pin fall victory and becomes the #1 Contenders to the Tag Team Championship. The LAX bask in their victory as we see Joel Anderson and Johnny Fairplay from the TV show, Survivor: Micronesia, sitting ringside at tonight’s event.
Jeremy Borash is outside of Jim Cornette’s office as footage of the different camera angles of the Six Sides of Steel match from this past Thursday. One of the angles shows Angle’s feet touching the ground first. Borash then guides the fans to tnawrestling.com and asks them to vote on a poll regarding whether or not Jim Cornette should overturn Earl Hebner’s decision.
A video package is aired that shows Jay Lethal’s transition from being a part of the group who rescued the X Division from extinction to his new challenge against Petey Williams.
Match 2: Petey Williams vs. Jay Lethal
Mike Tenay wonders if Jay Lethal will be more focused on impressing SoCal Val instead of focusing on his opponent, Petey Williams. Tenay also points out that Earl Hebner’s son, Brian, is refereeing this matchup tonight.
Lethal and Williams trade off with arm drags and counters to start this match off. They even trade off a couple of pin attempts with both of them picking up two counts. Lethal then tries to end it early with the Lethal Combination, but Williams is able to counter and sets up for the Canadian Destroyer but Lethal escapes and we are at a standstill.
Lethal manages to gain the advantage by landing a few rights before taking Williams down with a clothesline. Lethal then connects with a double axe handle from the top rope and goes for the cover but Williams kicks out before three. After Lethal lands a hurricanrana, Williams retreats to the outside and Lethal comes down on him again with a double axe handle.
Lethal rolls Williams back in but Rhaka Khan stands in the way of Lethal and stares him down and doesn’t let him back into the ring. Hebner calls Khan off of him and Lethal slides back into the ring but Williams has recovered and sends him head first into the turnbuckle. Williams follows up with a spinning neckbreaker and nearly picks up the win. Williams takes Lethal down with a jawbreaker and locks in a submission move but Lethal elbows his way out of it. Lethal tries to send Williams out to the floor, but Williams counters and hangs Lethal on the top rope before Williams sends him crashing to the floor with a diving hurricanrana.
Williams rolls Lethal back into the ring and slows the match down with a front face lock but Lethal turns the tide with an inverted atomic drop. Lethal continues to fire at Williams and face plants him on the canvas but it isn’t enough to keep Williams down, who sends Lethal flying into the ropes with a drop toe hold followed by a dropkick to Lethal’s back.
Williams then powerbombs Lethal down to the mat and sets up again for the Canadian Destroyer but Lethal reverses it into a full nelson suplex and nearly picks up the three count. Lethal tries for a springboard suplex and misses and Williams locks in the sharpshooter in the middle of the ring. Lethal tries to crawl to the ropes but Williams drags him back.
Williams sets up for the Canadian Destroyer but Lethal counters into the Lethal Combination. Lethal begins to climb the ropes until Scott Steiner comes out and pushes Lethal off of the top rope and onto the canvas as the referee has his hands full with Rhaka Khan on the other side of the ring.
Williams then delivers the Canadian Destroyer and is about to pick up the three count until SoCal Val grabs the foot of the referee which stops the count. Val tries to explain that Steiner interfered in the match until Khan gets involved and walks Val back to the entrance ramp. Sonjay Dutt comes out and gets in between the two as Lethal rolls Williams up in a small package for the win and to retain his X Division title.
Lethal, Dutt and SoCal Val celebrate the victory as Petey Williams and Rhaka Khan look on in disbelief. Mike Tenay and Don West run down the rest of the remaining card that still has a Fish Market Street Fight, a strap match and Elevation X.
Crystal is standing by with Christian Cage, Kevin Nash and Samoa Joe and wonders if the fans will influence Jim Cornette’s decision. Joe says it doesn’t matter as they will take care of business anyway. Nash says he might throw the Angle Alliance a curveball and start the match out himself.
A video package showing Eric Young’s fear of the monsters, Rellik and Black Reign, and the events leading up to their tag team match, including Kaz telling Young that he also has an alter ego waiting to come out.
Match 3: Black Reign & Rellik vs. Kaz & Eric Young
Kaz and Rellik go back and forth in the opening minutes of this match. Reign is tagged in but Kaz drops him with a dropkick before going over to Eric Young, who reluctantly tags into the match. Young delivers a right fist and takes him down with a flying forearm and tries for a pin attempt before running back to his corner and tagging Kaz back into the match.
Kaz comes in and rolls up Reign but Rellik enters and Kaz is able to take him down with a suplex and bridge, thus having them both in pinning predicaments, but they both kick out. Kaz motions for Young to enter, but he refuses which allows Rellik to nail Kaz from behind and giving the monsters the advantage.
Rellik and Reign work over Kaz and Reign is able to score a two count after a swinging neckbreaker. Rellik locks in a cobra clutch and tries to give him an overhead suplex, but Kaz lands on his feet and takes Rellik down with a dropkick. Eric Young then runs up the ramp and leaves Kaz in the ring by himself, which is enough distraction for Rellik to deliver a spinebuster on Kaz. Young returns to the apron and Kaz is able to make a tag but Rellik startles him enough for Young to run off to the back.
Rellik then brings in Kaz the hard way and is powered around by both Rellik and Reign, however, Kaz is able to hold his own by delivering a neckbreaker/DDT combination to both of his opponents. Suddenly, superhero music begins to play as Eric Young returns with a mask and takes out both of the monsters. Young then delivers the Death Valley Driver to both Rellik and Reign at the same time and picks up the win.
Jeremy Borash is with Jim Cornette along with the Angle Alliance. Angle still contends that his feet landed first and Cornette leaves to announce his decision and runs into Team 3D, who are not happy with his match stipulations tonight either. Cornette says he will make his own decisions without them and walks away.
A video package asking if Awesome Kong can ever be stopped is aired. Both ODB and Gail Kim will be facing Kong at once in this match of the beauty against the brawn against the beast. Mike Tenay runs down the tale of the tape and this match is about to start.
Match 4: Gail Kim vs. ODB vs. Awesome Kong (Women’s Championship)
Gail Kim and ODB try to double team Awesome Kong in the opening moments of the match, but Kong is too powerful and leaves them both lying on the mat. Kim and ODB try again and are able to send Kong out to the floor after Kim lands a flying leg drop while ODB holds Kong up on the ropes. With Kong out, Kim and ODB turn their attention to each other as they both try for quick pin attempts.
Kim heads for the top rope and looks to dive on ODB, but she turns and jumps at Kong, who catches her in the air. While in Kong’s grasp, ODB dives out to the floor and takes them both down as the fans begin a “TNA” chant. ODB rolls Kim back into the ring and goes for the cover but Kim kicks out at the count of one. ODB then delivers a fallaway slam and celebrates a bit too long as Kim nails her with a spear.
Kim tosses ODB out to the floor as Kong enters the ring and takes her down with a clothesline. Kong tries for a spinning back fist but Kim blocks it and drives her knees into Kong’s face, however, Kong fires back with another clothesline before sending her shoulder first into the ring post.
ODB comes back into the ring and nails Kong from behind and takes her down to the mat with a dropkick to her knee. Kong quickly fights back and takes ODB down with a double handed chokeslam. Kim makes her way back into the match and soon both her and ODB are double teaming against Kong once again.
While they have Kong dazed, both ODB and Kim take shots out of ODB’s flask and nail Kong with a double missile dropkick. They both want to go for the cover and begin fighting each other. Kong then takes ODB down with a spinning back fist and slams Kim down to the mat before leaping of the middle rope and delivering a splash to Kim. Kong covers, but ODB manages to break up the pin attempt.
ODB and Kong stare each other down and ODB comes at her with some chops but Kong answers back with an implant buster. Kong goes for a splash on ODB but ODB rolls out of the way. ODB comes with a Lou Thesz press, but Kong is able to kick out. ODB tries to continue, but she is tripped up by Raisha Saeed and the distraction is enough for Kong to set up for the Awesome Bomb on ODB and gets the pin fall victory to retain the Women’s Championship.
A video that show Rhino high upon the Elevation X platform is aired. He says he is over two stories high and that the only thing between him and the ground is air. Rhino says he has fallen time and time again only to get back up and questions if Storm will ever get back up after their match.
Jim Cornette is standing in the ring and says it is great to be back in the Scope Arena for a cheap pop before getting to his point. Cornette says that if Team 3D make weight tonight, they will not have to weigh in again, however, if they don’t, their contracts will be terminated. As for Kurt Angle, Cornette says that in slow motion, Kurt Angle’s feet did touch the floor first; however, he is going to let the fans in the building decide. The fans boo at declaring Angle as the winner and Cornette says the decision stands as we see Angle going berserk in the backstage area in light of the news.

Earl Hebner comes out to the ring with the scale and Team 3D has to make weight or else they will be fired. Brother Devon hopes on the scale and Hebner gives him the thumbs up. Brother Ray is up next and gingerly gets on the scale and Hebner also gives him the thumbs up, so they will never have to weigh in again. Johnny Devine celebrates the occasion by handing the ding dongs as both Shark Boy and Curry Man roll them up for quick pin attempts but they are able to kick out.
Team 3D are tossed out to the floor and Team 3D begin to head up the ramp but they are stopped as the four of them begin fighting on the ramp. Curry Man sends Ray face first into a pile of fish before nailing him with one of them across the back. Meanwhile, Shark Boy and Devon are wrestling around the ring and nailing him with a fish.
On the other side, Curry Man hangs a ding dong from one of the fishing lines and holds it out for Ray, who gobbles it up and gets hooked on the fishing line and Curry Man tries to reel him into the ring but isn’t successful, so Curry Man just dives over the rope and on top of Ray. Curry Man then catches Ray with a fishing net before nailing him in the chest with a fish.
Curry Man then charges at Ray again, but Ray counters sends Curry Man crashing into a table of fish with a back drop.
