Against All Odds (2/13 PPV Recap)

A video package opens Against All Odds that talks about for some, there is only today. Tonight holds an opportunity for great joys or great sorrows. The package focuses on the Ironman Match between AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels and the Full Metal Mayhem match between Jeff Hardy and Abyss. Finally it highlights the match between Jeff Jarrett and Kevin Nash for the NWA World Championship.

We then head into the Impact Zone as we are welcomed to the show by the announce team and the pyro kicks off Against All Odds. The announce team hypes the big matches on the card before sending it to Shane Douglas who is outside Jeff Jarrett’s locker room.

Douglas talks about the buzz between Jarrett and Nash and how he has a bunch of lawyers and dignitaries in the dressing room. Larry Zbyszko comes out and says there is a legal battle going on and he is on his way to find Dusty Rhodes. Douglas sends it off to Scott Hudson, who is outside of Kevin Nash’s locker room. Hudson talks about Nash and Jarrett’s history as the Kings of Wrestling and says he is focused tonight on winning the NWA World Championship.

Match 1: Petey Williams vs. Elix Skipper
The match starts as Williams and Skipper go back and forth with some traditional mat wrestling. Skipper finally levels Williams with a dropkick as Williams rolls out to the floor to regroup with Scott D’Amore. Williams returns and Skipper continues on the attack until Williams counters Skipper and tosses him out to the floor. Williams then distracts the referee as D’Amore gets in a few hits before Williams dives over the top rope and takes Skipper down with a hurricanrana.

Back in the ring, Williams hits a series of suplexes but he takes a little too much time getting to the top rope as Skipper sends him soaring with a suplex from the top rope. Skipper hits a couple of clotheslines before hanging him on the top rope and hitting a leg drop from the top rope. Williams is able to counter Skipper’s offense and takes him down with a tornado DDT. Both Skipper and Williams counter each others finishers and pin attempts until Skipper counters Williams and hits his new move, the Sudden Death, to pick up the pin fall.

A video package that focuses on Jeff Hammond and how he found his way to the match. It shows Hammond training and wrestling in the ring, whole Hammond says he is ready to wrestle in the ring.

Match 2: Kazarian & Michael Shane vs. BG James & Jeff Hammond
Konnan and Ron Killings join James and Hammond for this match. The bell rings and there is a lot of jawing from both sides until Hammond finally steps into the ring against Shane. Shane pushes Hammond and Hammond puts him in an arm bar before tagging James into the match. James and Hammond both work over Shane’s arm and use quick tags until Shane gets to his corner and tags Kazarian into the match.

James manages to take out both Kazarian and Shane, but a distraction allows Shane to take him down with a dropkick. James goes out to the floor and Kazarian dives over the top rope and takes him out on the floor. Back in the ring, Kazarian continues to wear James down and Shane picks up a near fall after taking James down with a double team move. Kazarian and Shane try another double team move but James counters and takes them both down before tagging Hammond into the match.

Hammond takes Kazarian down with a spear as this match breaks down. James is sent out to the floor and Shane misses with a superkick and nails Kazarian. Hammond then drops the elbow on Kazarian and picks up the pin fall for his team. 3Live Kru enters the ring to celebrate the victory with Jeff Hammond.

The announce team discuss tonight’s main event and wonder why Jeff Jarrett has lawyers with him. We then head back to Dusty Rhodes, who is with Traci and Trinity. The three are going over the contract of tonight’s main event as Zbyszko walks up with a lawyer. The lawyer wants to have the stipulation removed and says that Jarrett has never used the guitar as a weapon before. Rhodes says he won’t sign off on it and tells the lawyer to get lost in a way that only Dusty Rhodes can.

A video focusing on the feud between Raven and Dustin Rhodes and their 6-man tag team match that took place this past week on Impact. The match between Raven and Rhodes is coming up next.

Match 3: Raven vs. Dustin Rhodes
The bell rings and Raven nails Rhodes a few times before spitting in Rhodes’ face. This sets Rhodes off as he goes after Raven and the fight goes out to the floor, where Rhodes sends Raven into the steel steps. The match returns to the ring where Raven is able to get back into the match and takes Rhodes down with a clothesline. Raven begins to work over Rhodes’ leg and locks in an ankle lock. Rhodes tries to grab the ropes but Raven drags him back to the center of the ring. Rhodes is able to get to his feet and hits Raven with a couple of clotheslines.

Rhodes tries for a bulldog but Raven shoves him away, however, Rhodes comes back and levels Raven with a clothesline. Rhodes then heads to the top rope but Raven is able to get his boot up and block Rhodes’ high risk move. Raven then sets up for the Raven Effect but Rhodes counters and takes Raven down with a superkick. Rhodes is able to get a near fall but Raven kicks out. Raven recovers and again puts Rhodes in an ankle lock but Rhodes rolls through and sends Raven out to the floor. Raven returns to the ring and takes Rhodes down as he goes for another ankle lock. Rhodes escapes and puts Raven in an ankle lock of his own, but Raven rolls through and pins Rhodes while using the ropes for leverage.

After the match, Raven continues to go after Rhodes, but Rhodes fights back and Rhodes hits the referee instead. Raven then connects with a superkick before puling out a garbage can from under the ring. Raven pulls a straight jacket out of it and puts it on Rhodes. Raven rolls Rhodes back into the ring but Rhodes fights back with a few kicks until Raven finally lays him out with a trash can. Raven then straps Rhodes to the turnbuckle and grabs a strap but Cassidy Riley comes out to help, however, Raven takes him out with the Raven Effect. Raven then begins to lace into Rhodes until security and referees run out to put a stop to it.

The announce team begins to talk about what just happened as the lights go out in the Impact Zone as we see a vignette for Triton who will be debuting on Impact this week. We are then treated to a video package that focuses on the upcoming match between AMW and Kid Kash & Lance Hoyt. The announce team runs down the bullet points for the match and how the two teams have a history with each other.

Match 4: Kid Kash & Lance Hoyt vs. America’s Most Wanted (NWA Tag Team Championship)
The match starts as Storm and Kash start out and go back and forth in the opening moments. The two try to go for quick pin attempts but neither even get a single count from the referee. The two stare each other down before tagging their partners into the match. Hoyt and Harris begin to go at it for a bit before the partners are tagged in and the match breaks down. Kash and Hoyt are tossed out to the floor and Storm takes them both out by diving over the top rope.

Kash is rolled back into the ring and Hoyt takes out Storm with a clothesline before rolling Storm back into the ring. Hoyt and Kash then take turns working over Storm in the middle of the ring and Hoyt nearly puts Storm away with a powerbomb, but Harris breaks up the pin attempt. Kash comes in and takes Storm down with a DDT before going for the frog splash, but Storm lifts up his news and counters the move. Storm and Kash then take each other out with cross body blocks as they both crawl to their corners to tag in their partners.

Harris takes Hoyt down with a series of clotheslines and Kash with a spinebuster. Harris then drives Hoyt down with a high vertical suplex, but Kash is there to take Harris down with a hurricanrana. Storm comes in and takes Kash down with the Eye of the Storm as Hoyt nails Storm with a side slam from the top rope. Hoyt covers Storm but he is able to kick out. Harris then takes out Kash as Storm sends Hoyt down to the canvas with a hurricanrana from the top rope and Harris connects with an elbow drop from the top rope, but Hoyt kicks out of the pin attempt.

Kash grabs the championship belt and nails Storm with it and covers but Storm kicks out of the pin attempt. Harris then comes in and spears Kash and Storm levels him with a superkick. Harris then locks Kash to the turnbuckle with the handcuffs and AMW sets up for the Death Sentence on Hoyt and pick up the pin fall to win the match and retain the NWA Tag Team Championship.

Shane Douglas is in the parking lot where a limo is arriving. Security come out and block Douglas from seeing who it is and Douglas tells them that he won’t leave until he finds out who is in there. A video package is then aired that focuses on the feud between Jeff Hardy and Abyss and the first ever Full Metal Mayhem match.

Match 5: Abyss vs. Jeff Hardy (Full Metal Mayhem)
There are tables, ladder and chairs around the ring and two envelopes are hanging high above the ring. One envelop is empty, while the other one contains a contract for a future shot at the NWA World Championship. The match starts and Hardy tries to use his speed against Abyss but he fails to knock him down. Hardy goes out of the ring and tosses a bunch of chairs into the ring as Abyss leaves the ring. Hardy sets up a chair and uses it as a springboard to take out Abyss. Hardy then sends Abyss into the stairs a few times and then nails him with a chair once Abyss returns to the ring. Hardy tries for another springboard, but Abyss smashes a chair into Hardy’s face to slow down his momentum.

Abyss begins to pound on Hardy as the fight goes back out to the floor. Abyss sends Hardy into the railing as Abyss begins to set up a bunch of tables on top of each other. While Abyss is doing this, Hardy slides a ladder into the ring. Abyss meets Hardy in the ring but Hardy takes him down with a springboard. The two begin to fight over the ladder and Hardy traps him in the corner and dropkicks a chair into Abyss’ face. Hardy grabs another ladder and sets up a catapult with the ladders and uses it to crack Abyss in the face with it. Hardy then charges at Abyss, who back drops him over the top rope and through a table, however, it looks like Hardy hit more of the floor as he barely hit the table.

Hardy is slow to get up but he is able to nail Abyss with a chair on the floor. The two fight on the entrance ramp as Abyss grabs another table and sets it up on the stage, but Abyss takes too much time and Hardy nails him a couple of times before Hardy heads to the top of the set. Hardy then jumps off the set and hits Abyss with a Swanton Bomb that sends him crashing through a table. Hardy heads towards the ring and grabs a huge ladder and puts it in the ring as Abyss crawls towards the ring. Hardy sets up the ladder and begins climbing up as he grabs an envelope, but it is the empty one. Abyss enters the ring as Hardy begins going for the other envelope, but Abyss pulls Hardy off the ladder. Abyss then sends Hardy over the top rope and sends him crashing through the tower of tables. Abyss then grabs the contract to win the match.

After the match, Hardy flips out and smashes the tables he went through in pieces before heading backstage. The announce team says you have to feel for Hardy since he did everything but win the match. Don West continues to flip out over the Swanton Bomb Hardy did off the set and the two talk about how brutal the match was and we are treated to highlights of the match.

A video package airs shows Team Canada and Scott Hall beating down Monty Brown, only to have DDP come out for the rescue. Brown and DDP then aligned themselves against Team Canada and the two will meet tonight in a tag team match, which is up next.

Match 6: Team Canada vs. Monty Brown & Diamond Dallas Page
Scott Hall was supposed to be in this match but the announce team tells us that Scott D’Amore bought out his contract to let Eric Young take his place. D’Amore and Johnny Devine accompany Bobby Roode and Eric Young to the ring for this match. The bell rings and Brown powers Young around the ring in the early going until Roode pulls his partner out of harms way and out to the floor. It doesn’t help matters, as Brown continues on the attack as he tags DDP into the match and they team together to work over Young. DDP finally tosses Young into his corner and he tags Roode into the match.

DDP takes Roode down with a clothesline before tagging his partner into the match. Brown picks up a pin attempt after taking Roode down with a suplex before tagging Page into the match. DDP hits Roode with a swinging neckbreaker and picks up another near fall, however, a distraction from Young allows Roode to take control of the match. Team Canada begin to work over DDP in their corner with quick tags in and out of the match. DDP finally hits a jawbreaker on Roode as DDP tags Brown into the match.

Young is also tagged in but Brown comes in and takes out both members of Team Canada. Brown then takes Young down with a fallaway slam, however, a distraction from D’Amore allows Team Canada to hit Brown with a hockey stick and triple team him. Young then hits with a top rope elbow drop to score a near fall but Brown gets bad into the match and tags in DDP. Page comes in and starts taking everyone out with big boots before the match breaks down. Brown and DDP take Young and Roode out with clotheslines and ram their heads into Devine’s and D’Amore’s. Brown then hits Roode with the Pounce and DDP hits the Diamond Cutter on Young to pick up the pin fall.

We head back to Dusty Rhodes’ truck where he is gone but Traci and Trinity is still around. The lawyer comes up and wonders if he signed off on the stipulation and they tell him that he hasn’t and he won’t as the lawyer walks away. A video package is aired that focuses on the feud between AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels. Each of them think that they are better and Dusty Rhodes booked them in a 30-minute Ironman Match for the X Division Title. The announce team runs down the bullet points for this match as we head into the Ironman Match.

Match 7: Christopher Daniels vs. AJ Styles (30-minute Ironman Match for the X Division Title)
The bell rings and the timer begins to countdown as the two lock up. Styles and Daniels counter each others ground moves in the early going and trade quick pin attempts. Styles then connects with a dropkick that sends Daniels out to the floor and Styles then leaps off the apron and takes Daniels down with a hurricanrana. The two trade blows on the floor before returning the the ring. Styles locks Daniels in an arm bar but Daniels counters with a leg scissors. Styles breaks free and puts Daniels in another arm bar as five minutes of the match has passed.

Styles goes for a few more near falls before putting another arm bar on Daniels but Daniels fights his way out of it and he retreats to the floor. Styles dropkicks Daniels through the ropes before jumping off the ropes and crashes on Daniels who is standing on the floor. Daniels returns to the ring and he knocks Styles off the apron and sends him crashing into the guard railing. Daniels rolls him back into the ring and continues to wear him down by focusing on the midsection. Daniels then goes for a pin fall but Styles kicks out as 10 minutes have elapsed.

Daniels continues to focus on Styles’ midsection and he picks up another near fall after hitting a moonsault. Styles begins to fight back and takes Daniels down with a clothesline and a spin kick. Styles then connects with an inverted DDT but Daniels kicks out of the pin attempt. Styles then hits a neckbreaker but Daniels again kicks out of the pin attempt. Styles takes Daniels down with a back drop and then heads to the top rope but Daniels meets him on the ropes, however, Styles shoves him down to the canvas. Styles tries for the 450 but Daniels gets his knees up. Daniels then hits Styles with the Angel’s Wings and picks up the first fall of the match as the clock has nearly been cut in half.

Daniels continues to wear down Styles and locks Styles in an abdominal stretch. Styles is able to counter with a hip toss, however, Daniels hangs Styles up across the top rope and regains control of the match. Daniels targets the midsection some more until Styles is able to counter with a bad elbow. Styles then connects with a springboard flying forearm but Styles cannot keep Daniels down as we are down to the final 10 minutes of the Ironman contest.

Daniels is able to regain control of the match and picks up another near fall after driving Styles down with a powerbomb. Styles is able to counter Daniels’ offense with a Pele kick, however, Styles is too wore out to make the cover. Daniels recovers and tries for the BME, but Styles rolls out of the way and hits a few German suplexes. Styles then hits Daniels with his own move, but Daniels is able to kick out to keep this match at 1-0 in his favor. Styles then sets up for the Styles Clash but Daniels counters and backs Styles into the corner. Styles then counter Daniels and rolls him up to pick up a pin fall of his own to tie the match at one pin a piece with five minutes to go.

Styles and Daniels make their way to the floor where Daniels sends Styles into the ring post and Styles is busted open. Daniels rolls Styles in the ring and tries to pin Styles but he kicks out. Daniels begins to focus on Styles’ forehead where he is busted open as the clock begins to wind down. With under a minute left, Styles begins to fight back but Daniels locks Styles in the Koji Clutch but Styles refuses to submit as time expires. Daniels thinks he won by submission but referee Andrew Thomas says he didn’t submit. The match ended in a time limit draw.

Daniels goes out and grabs a microphone and says he wants to have a sudden death overtime to finish the match. Dusty Rhodes comes out and agrees to it and the match it restarted. Daniels goes in the ring and continues to beat down Styles and goes for a pin attempt by Styles again kicks out. Daniels tries for a top rope hurricanrana but Styles counters it and pushes Daniels down to the canvas. Styles then takes Daniels down with a hurricanrana before hitting the Styles Clash to pick up the pin fall and wins the Ironman match 2-1 to retain the X Division Championship.

Jeff Jarrett is seen walking out of his dressing room where his lawyer says he couldn’t get Dusty Rhodes to get rid of the stipulation. Jarrett says it is time to take matters into his own hand by any means necessary. We then see footage of the rift that grew between Jeff Jarrett and Kevin Nash in recent weeks. Nash vows to take home the title but Jarrett says he will win by any means. Dusty Rhodes’ stipulation about Jarrett losing the title if he uses the guitar is also hit upon. We see the tale of the tape and the announce team runs down the bullet points as we head into the main event of the evening.

Match 8: Kevin Nash vs. Jeff Jarrett (NWA World Championship)
Jeremy Borash handles the formal introductions for the Against All Odds main event. The bell rings as the two feel each other out for the first few moments. Nash is able to use his size and strength advantage over the champion and tosses him around the ring and methodically wears him down with punches and elbows. Jarrett is able to find an opening and begins the focus on Nash’s knees to take the big man down. Nash doesn’t go down, though, as he takes Jarrett down with a clothesline as the actin spills out to the floor.

Nash drops Jarrett onto the announce table before they return to the ring. Nash takes too much time getting back into the ring and Jarrett sees it as an opportunity to again focus on Nash’s knees. Jarrett knocks Nash down to the mat and works him over with some blows but Nash tosses Jarrett out to the floor. Nash follows as the brawl goes out into the crowd and to the backstage area. Nash sends Jarrett into a few walls and into the catering table. Nash then grabs a chair and cracks Jarrett in the back with it before choking him with it. Nash begins to pound on Jarrett and busts him open before they make their way back through the crowd in the Impact Zone.

Back in the ringside area, Nash begins to pull back the ring mats but Jarrett hits Nash with a low blow to stop Nash momentum. Jarrett the pulls out a case from under the ring and pulls out a cello, that breaks as he pulls it out. He nails Nash with it before using the ring post to weaken Nash’s knees some more. Jarrett begins to use the cello case on Nash knee as Nash is seen laying on the mat and in pain. Jarrett then locks in the figure four as Nash tries to make it to the ropes and is able to reach as Jarrett has to break the hold.

Jarrett then drags Nash back to the middle of the ring and drops a few elbows on Nash’s knee before putting on another leg lock. Nash fights his way out of it and ends up taking Jarrett down with a big boot. Nash then hits a side slam for a near fall a drops Jarrett into the turnbuckles for a few snake eyes. Nash tries to go for a third one but Jarrett counters and takes Nash down with a chop block. Jarrett goes out and grabs the cello but Nash nails Jarrett with a low blow. Nash grabs the cello and Jarrett begs for mercy as the referee steps in between them.

Nash puts down the cello but sets up for the Jackknife Powerbomb and the referee is inadvertently hit in the process. Nash then powerbombs Jarrett into the cello but the referee is out and can’t make the count. Billy Gunn then runs into the ring and clocks Nash from behind and leaves the ring. Jarrett then covers Nash as the referee recovers begins to count but Nash kicks out. Gunn begins to head back to the ring but a referee cuts him off. Meanwhile, Sean Waltman enters the ring and begins attacking Jarrett and gives him the Bronco Buster and the X Factor.

Jarrett, Nash and the referee are all laid out in the ring as Nash tries to cover Jarrett but Jarrett is able to kick out. Gunn enters the ring with the NWA World Championship and is setting up to hit Nash with it but BG James comes out and grabs it from him. Nash then clotheslines Gunn out to the floor as Jarrett grabs the belt and levels Nash with it, but Nash kicks out of the pin attempt. Jarrett then hits the Stroke but Nash kicks out once again. Jarrett then heads to the top rope but Nash catches him but Jarrett kicks Nash below the belt and hits the Stroke to finally pick up the pin fall victory to retain the NWA World Championship.

After the match, Billy Gunn comes back and hands Jarrett the World Championship as a bloody Jarrett celebrates his victory. The announce team then hypes Impact and the upcoming Destination X pay-per-view as Against All Odds comes to a close.
